NO To Necas, The Canucks Should Target These Wingers Instead!

All advanced statistics courtesy of Natural Stat Trick.

At the season-ending press conference, Patrik Allvin announced his intention of adding another top-six winger. He is also looking to add speed to his roster. For months, the Canucks have been linked to Martin Necas of the Carolina Hurricanes, an RFA looking to cash in. I would advise the Canucks to steer clear of Necas, and in this video, I provide three alternatives.

As always, if you guys enjoy this video, please like, comment, and subscribe!

  1. Necas wouldn’t be a bad winger for Pettersson and Hoglander. He has some size, speed and he can both put the puck in the net and pass. Maybe there are better options, but he wouldn’t be terrible.

  2. Unless trading Hronek allows the canucks to free up cap space then a trade seems pointless as forwards are more easily obtained thorough free agency without giving up assets.

Then they need would to find a replacement for Hronek.

The whole point of trading him is to free up cap space so they can re-sign guys like Joshua and Zadorov.

If that doesnt happen I'm of the opinion that it would be better to find a fair deal to re-sign him.

  3. Canucks CEO is over the hill bone head , made obvious at year end meeting , players coming to Canucks get hurt as soon as contract signed. Canucks management do their best to look smart but are fools

  4. Necas is more than a 53 point player. Example: The worlds tournament 4 games played 6 points. Small sample, I know. The system in Carolina limits his potential, it prioritizes zone possession and defense. It is too ridgid and doesn't mesh with his game well. He could perform much better somewhere else that will allow him much more creativity and feature him on a first line. Disclaimer: I am a Canes fan, I have watched him play a lot.

  5. Something I’ve noticed about Pettersson is that he plays well with right hand shots. Toffoli, Kuzmenko, Garland, Boeser… Lekkerimäki?

  6. I think one of the main reasons why ppl are so high on Necas is that he fits our timeline so well. He is a 25yo C/RW who is 1yr removed from a 71 point season. Although he regressed to 53 points this year, that was all while playing 3rd line minutes with Drury and Martinook. He's fast, can shoot, and super creative with the puck. Although he is not necessarily a shut down defender, I think the notion that he is a defensive liability is a bit of an exaggeration. I agree that he does sometimes have defensive gaffes here and there but in no way would I say that he is a liability playing in the top 6.

All the other guys you mentions although good (and likely cheaper) are all pretty much in their 30s (minus Ehlers). We obviously want this team to be competitive for as long as possible and I think having Necas gives you the option down the line to move Miller to the wing if he starts to regress (I still think he'll be solid for at least another 3-4 years) and run a tandem of Petey and Necas. I don't think his cap hit will be that much of an issue given that the caps only going to go up every year. What may seem like a 7.5m dollar player now may be more like a 5.5-6m dollar player a year or 2 from now.

I also think he has a huge potential to breakout playing with Petey. He never gets to play with Aho or Svech aside from the PP and still puts up respectable numbers. Sorta reminds me of JT miller in Tampa. And it's not like Miller was great defensively when he first got here so I definitely think Necas can grow in that department too.

  7. Same Drafted class as pettersson necas necas has the shot and speed and power forward good along the Boards can played all positions

  8. YES to necas. Stop being delusional, he’s 25 and the most talented forward on the canes. Tocchet can teach defence, look at miller. Kuzmenko just couldn’t produce under pressure.

  9. I would keep Hronek right handed defencemen in their prime are hard to find. Wingers are dime a dozen and Lekkerimäki is projected to be top six player. Canucks management should have patience and stop trading away draft choices.

  10. 100% agree Toffoli. Low risk. Known chemistry. Tinker with Hoglander/Podkolzin/Karlsson and Lekkerimaki up and down the lineup. EP2 should also be groomed . Zadorov 7 years 38M more term less aav 5.5ish, Toffoli 3yrs 13M, Lindholm 40M 6 yrs Dakota Johnson 4yrs 7M need more than 1/2 games out of 7 games series. Tyler Myers 2yrs-5M (good retirement pension), Ian Cole 1.8-2M, your're in or in the way. Filip Hronek, can be replaced; Blueger same salary 1 yr Mikheyev trade for a 6/7th rounder. 21.5of 26M used leaving 4.5M for trade flexibility mid season or near deadline

  11. Another good show. I trust Alvine to make the right moves. The future is exciting with a management team that knows cap and asset management. There has been a massive difference from last off-season.

  12. For sure tho whatever the player we get the main priority is get someone to be on Peteys wing. I would like to keep Hronek but not the money he asking for. He needs to take a hometown discount and I don't think that's him

  13. The way Allvin and Co. conduct business. We will have no idea who for or when they pull the trigger on a trade. We can all sit here and speculate. Canucks brass only leaks what they want. And since when do we listen to "the pundits"? 98% of the time they are dead wrong.

  14. You need a power forward type winger to play with Petterson, open up time and space for pettey to make plays

  15. Wingers in free agency are a dime a dozen! I would not trade assets for one! Centers and Right handed Dmen are the valuable commodity! Since we are good down the middle if we sign Blueger I would concentrate on building a Big fast D corp! We are set in goal with Demmer and Silovs!

  16. my question is… if toffolli is so great. why has he been bounced around so much from team to team? something just doesnt add up.

  17. There were some reports that Brady Tkachuk is getting frustrated being in Ottawa and missing the playoffs 6 straight years and could be available,
If he dose I'm pretty sure Vancouver could be on the short list of teams to be dealt to since his best friend Quinn Hughes plays here!

  18. Necas has shown during the WC24 that he has great potential if given the chance. The Swedish team full of NHL stars was handled like a kids and a lot of people said that his true colors were greatly restricted by Carolina's style of play, I would not be surprised to see him hit 100 points in teams like Panthers, Oilers, Leafs or Predators.
But its also trues that if you are looking for a more defensive player or power forward, you should probably look elsewhere, he is more speed/skill player than power/battleforthepuck that you need for Petterson right now.
