Marty Pavelich has passed away, per his son. Was part of the Detroit Red Wings heyday in the 1950s.

Marty won 4 Stanley Cups with the Wings in the 50s and was a huge, yet regularly unmentioned part of their success as a great checking forward and support winger.
This feels like the very end of an era. Very few of these guys from the 50’s are left. Marty got to live a great life and made it to 96. There’s a lot to celebrate there.

Not many of these guys left and by that it’s not just the wings but people from the heyday of Detroit. He was a great guy and one of my dad’s friends. Kind of hits since we lost him a few years back.
The reunion games in heaven just got the last guy in.

Marty is from my city, sault ste. Marie, just another legend from the Soo. Nobody looked sharper than Marty in the white sweater with white arms. God I wish they’d bring that back.
