Friedman on TJMS: Word in Vegas is that Guentzel had an ask and the Hurricanes are prepared to meet that ask.



He added that’s he’s heard this from multiple teams. Also said that contract structure/trade protections are still being hammered out, but reiterated that Guentzel is likely returning to the Hurricanes.

    Wait hold on are you telling me that the guy who said he was upset the last GM wasn’t negotiating with him is now gonna sign with a GM who negotiated with him?

    I thought for sure he was in it solely for money and free agency with a free plane ticket to Vancouver.

    This goes down as one of the best trades in franchise history if the deal gets done. We got him at the deadline without giving up our top prospects or a 1st round pick (with the obvious caveat there being…you know). I really hope we get to see the JAG line for years to come.

    im genuinely curious because i feel like most players start to drop off when they get into their mid 30’s… why does any team want to sign jake for 8 years? i feel like it makes no sense for any team, maybe im just missing something and i love jake but im not sure why any team wants him for 8 years when he’s turning 30 at the beginning of next season.
