Is Sam Reinhart a $10M a year player?

Sam Reinhart is set to hit the open market on July 1 after a career-best season where he racked up 57 goals, 94 points and helped the Panthers capture the Stanley Cup. Is Reinhart worth $10M a year in free agency? TSN Hockey analyst Frankie Corrado shares his thoughts.

  1. Hear me out… Edmonton should extend Draisaitl for 14 mil, then sign Reinhart for 13 and have no cap space for anything.

  2. Guys who are big and less than 30 years old who score 57 goals are worth a lot. The problem with Reinhart is that 57 goal tally seems to be an extreme outlier. His career high in goals previously merely was 33. He's not a defensive stopper. You can't play him on your penalty kill. If you pay Reinhart $10M AAV and he reverts back to his career mean of around 30 goals per year with only so so defense you've wrecked yourself. Risky bet. Caveat emptor.

  3. No one GM in the league is look at the leafs contacts and saying "ya that's where I see him" . After all their signing they wonder why ALL other teams get a paid cut

  4. sam had 31 and 33 goals the last 2 years, then 57 this year…..he's only had 1 year of this production,,,he needs to show more than 1 year to get this type of money, he's also 29 years old …a couple of years ago kreider had over 50 then after that never got more than 39

  5. Hard to see him at 10+, know he had a good year but that doesn't mean he's going to ever produce anything near that ever again. I would like to see the league change rules on cap though, either give teams with higher tax more cap or teams with zero tax less, it's kinda unfair if you think about it.

  6. For sure…he gets that in a new contract all day every day in the modern NHL. Whether or not he is actually worth the $10M cap hit is another question entirely. But he is getting it..

  7. Absolutely not only reason he has that many goals is barkov and the powerplay where hes the bumper he only turned his game around playing in Florida in Buffalo where he had to drive a line he didnt do anything now that hes not the main man on the line hes able to produce no one should make over 10 and not be able to drive a line (cough marner Tavares cough) and whats up with everyone getting overpaid recently Hronek got a bag for having one mid year like in what world does Reinhart make more than Brayden point only way he should get 10+ bags is if he leaves Florida to get overpaid i mean thinking he should make more then Barkov is borderline autistic

  8. Did this former 7th pair defenceman just compared Reinhart to Nylander? One is Stanley cup winner, other is not. Pretty obvious who is worth more and has done more. Willy is 8mil dollariduus player at most.

  9. He couldn’t even sniff Nylander’s jock straps. In all seriousness tho the most I’d give him is 10. I thought he was quiet against Edmonton

  10. I dont know. Tough call. He scores timely goals and did much more than Thachuk this year. He scored the Cup winning goal, that’s for sure.

  11. Considering they don't pay taxes, he can sign for 9 million and still be making more money than Nylander or Marner.

  12. Boycott the NHL..americanized league. Canadian players are, unpatriotic, sell out, money grubbers who would rather play in america south. Canadians need our own league or just stick to OHL and amateur league.boycot the NHL..

  13. Florida has some serious decisions to make. Reinhart and Montour are due up then next year is Bennett, Verhaeghe on good deals plus Ekblad and they don’t have much in the cupboard. It’s going to be hard to repeat.

  14. What kind of question is this? If Petterson can get 11.6M, Reihart should get 12M easy. Petterson's contract is the biggest bust I've ever witnessed.

  15. Several things. He did score a lot of key goals his season (powerplay) including the Cup winner. His age is working against him. Plus, where would he have been without Barkov? I'm thinking he will end up taking 8 to 8.5 million tops. Whether it's with Florida is a whole discussion in and of itself.
