I just hope Marner gets to play well in the playoffs this spring. The Leafs lost to Tampa last night – I care about Leaf team success and when Leafs win playoff rounds again. If Matthews and Marner get paid very high – so Leaf team suffers with cap issues – who am I to question that? At least Matthews & Marner are entertaining although – they likely benefit for any overpayment to them at Leaf’s fans expense..
Now it’s late Feb. 2023 and Mitch Marner is continuing to be arguably the Leafs best most consistent Leaf. Succeeds on the PP and the PK and he’s arguably the best set up man IN THE LEAGUE. If I had to look at this purely from a personal standpoint I realize that now we can all agree that the NHL is a BUSINESS FIRST. Looks to me like Mitch has made as much as he possibly can. That’s the BOTTOM LINE. GET AS MUCH AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN. NO HOMETOWN DISCOUNT BECAUSE THIS IS A BUSINESS !
History has shown, Mitch Marner has shown that these three guys did not have a clue what they were talking about. It’s now 2023 and Mitch is dragging the rest of the team with him into the playoffs. And he is getting better, faster than anyone else. In fact, Mitch’s game is constantly evolving, he’s constantly learning. That’s not happening with anyone else, anywhere in the NHL at this pace. He is seriously underpaid. He also put the boots to all of the people who made comments here from what I could see.
O’Neill is right. Why “negotiate” for months just for the sake of it? Make the organization distracted and stressed out for no reason while you see if you can get .01% more? Bullshit and selfish. No wonder the leafs never win
Nathan MacKinnon took team friendly deals, he said I haven't accomplished anything in 6 yrs . He never once held the Avalanche hostage, and after he won the cup, he still took less . 7 yrs later, 5 with M M& N, they tall ook their money up front Management did not bawk and refused to draw a line in the sand. Now 3 now trade clauses come in on July 1st . Someone doesn't know how to play poker or have been taken and sold a bill of goods.
But it does matter this is what's holding them back. O-dog is right there needs to be a stand you can't just come here and automatically expect the bag. It's selfish do you want to win ? I know the fans want to see it..
if you want a Ferrari in the driveway you gotta pay Ferrari money…. and if you want 3 Ferraris expect to pay FULL PRICE. this isn't a buy one get some at half price.
Marner is beyond spoiled. No wonder his head isn’t in the game. The love of money will make you lose your soul. It’s become apparent he’s the one they should let go of.

Send him to Pittsburgh in trade. Dubas and Mitch can reunite and give him the overpayment. Reilly blew a massive coverage against Boston on that dump in. Move out these 2 and bring in some grit and a goalie. Try to balance the book out with 2-5M dollar players
