Linus Ullmark traded to the Ottawa Senators

Today, the Boston Bruins traded former Vezina winner Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators.

Linus Ullmark was a constant professional for the Boston Bruins, and Ottawa is lucky to have him.

  1. Not to mention Sweeney is HORRIBLE at drafting so the main piece coming back being a LATE pick shouldn’t comfort any bruins fan. This trade is just a waste, should have kept him for the year if that’s all we could get

  2. As a Sens fan it’s easy to grow a soft spot for Boston after what they’ve done to Toronto so I feel kinda bad, this one does not look great on your end IMO – hopefully korpi can flourish as a backup cause the dude was just awful for us.

  3. As long as you don’t screw up the pick then you win this trade easy. Korpisalo can be as good as Ullmark in Boston and even better than Ullmark in the playoffs. He has that ability.
No one seems to know anything about kastelic so just look at his stats and then comment. ???
    He’s a beast.
So you get a backup at 2mil less than Ullmark + a 4C beast + a future middle 6 or middle pair d player or trading chip.

Don’t give your analysis if you don’t know anything about the players involved.

  4. Thx Boston. After knocking out the Leafs, giving us a Vezina trophy winner, I'm starting to think u might give us your playoff spot next yr.

  5. as a sens fan who has seen every kastelic game: he is a below average 4th line center at best. doesnt play special teams. terrible playmaker. bad scorer. all hes good at is hitting and faceoffs. otherwise he has no other NHL level traits. im happy i don't have to watch anymore on the sens.

  6. Hey. Rangers fan here who lives in Ottawa so when they aren't playing the Rangers, I cheer the sens as well. Your channel was recommended to me by youtube while searching for Ullmark trade info last week.
I gotta say I think you are doing a great job on this channel. You speak very clearly, your voice has a great cadence and you express well-thought-out and balanced takes on news and issues for your team. When I was in the army, we would say Bravo Zulu which means "job well done". So Bravo Zulu to you dude. I have a few friends on facebook that are bruins fans. Gonna share the link to your channel on there and make it a public post with hashtags like #bruins #nhl etc. I hope it gets you a few subscribers. You deserve it.
    Have a great week. 🙂

  7. Dude he had near the end of the season a pretty decent D core and still was absolutely terrible. Sweeny got completely fleeced. Korpi lets in some real stinkers. Just need to shoot for his glove hand you will score. The beginning of the season the D was trash and our bottom pairing was terrible didn’t help we couldn’t get the needed saves.

  8. Fire Sweeney immediately wtf he is a joke and it's embarrassing for the city to watch him shoot this team in the foot every year.

  9. you dont use logic. frst of all, the assets could be flipped. remember martin jones? he could be bought out or sent to minors. Kastelic is big, fast, wins faceoffs and fights. the defensemen that was rumored is always hurt and will command big numbers…i dont think any bruins fan wanted him. i didnt. and they get a first rounder which could also be flipped with the goalie. ullmark had bad numbers with buffalo and then was great with boston. JK had great numbers on LA. so if they keep him he will be a better than average back up. i dont really like the trade but i dont know what anyone was expecting. look at what calgary got for markstrom.

  10. Sens fan here! I know how it feels to get shafted on trade returns so I’ll try and provide a little optimism.

Korpi was one of the worst goalies last season, true. However, Ottawa’s defensive play was also one of the worst. These go hand in hand. Korpi is a true professional, I think he’ll have a really nice bounce back year behind a much more structured Boston defence. His cap hit sucks but if he can return to form, he’ll be a very good 1B goalie instead of a 2A. Seems beneficial considering Swayman’s inexperience.

Kasty was born to wear a Bruin’s jersey, not gonna lie. He’s a big guy and he plays mean. Will never blow you away with skill, but he gives 110% every game and honestly feeds off high energy games pretty well. He’ll be the guy dropping the gloves or throwing a big hit when the team needs. An essential role player that all good teams need. Plus he’s only 25 with room to grow in his niche role.

25th overall is meh but for a potential rental goaltender, you couldn’t expect much more than this. No team is overpaying for an unextended goalie, even if it’s a vezina caliber one.

  11. I'm a Sens fan from Ottawa and Korpisalo played for a team with bad Defence. He will do better in Boston. BTW I believe Koripsalo has a better Playoff Record then Linus Ullmark.
P.S Now that my Goalie plays for Boston now I have to cheer for Boston & Ottawa now. Treat him well. He was always nice to me and other fans

  12. I'm a Senators fan and I can't make sense of it from Boston's end. As A Sens fan, I'm ecstatic with this trade. Thought for sure we'd lose Chychrun, Pinto or maybe even Batherson to get a goalie of Ullmark's caliber PLUS a 1st Rounder and a few throw ins. Shedding Krappysalo in itself was a magicians feat as I was convinced we were stuck with that hot garbage for the next 4 years of his deal. What an anchor of a contract that was so getting rid of him while retaining 1M per season is good for us. Kastellic has zero offensive upside and isn't a fast skater. At 6'4" he SHOULD be at least a physical force but he isn't. Soft as baby poop and often doesn't even finish checks. If he does get in a fight, he inevitably loses as he's a big guy but has zero snarl or teeth. All in all, this trade is a mystery to me as a Senators fan because I don't see the positive for Boston. A trade should end with both sides feeling like they maybe gave up a tad much but in the end are comfortable with the deal. This entire deal seems very one sided for Ottawa – a Divisional rival at that!!!! Sweeney just made a team he WILL be fighting for a berth next year that much harder. The Atlantic is gonna be a bloodbath next season as virtually every team in it with the exception of Montreal (depending on their off season moves) could very well legit fight for a play off slot next year but only 5 at most can get in.

  13. Sens fan here: Kastelic is big, mean, and good at faceoffs, but that's about it. Provides nearly zero offense, not a great skater, not particularly strong defensively. On a good team he's probably the 13th or 14th forward. If Ottawa had lost him on waivers I wouldn't have been upset.

Korpisalo was 96th out of 96 goalies in terms of gsax last season according to evolving hockey. I think he will be much better this year (it would be almost impossible to be worse), but there's no doubt that he will never be better than an ok back-up goalie. Maybe 3M is an ok price for that in a couple years, but Ottawa is much happier to have the 3M in cap space and eat that 1M.

  14. How do you know someone doesn’t know shit about hockey? They reference an 8.9 save percentage, not an .890 save percentage. Look at what the other teams got for their goalies! No one is giving up massive talent for goalies.

You’re absolutely wrong about Korpisalo. He’s going to be solid. And you’re forgetting how bad Ullmark was in the playoffs. Three playoffs, three times he got benched for Swayman.

  15. The market for Ullmark was pretty much gone. Who know how many Better deals Sweeney had but Ullmark vetoed. I’ll take the first round pick and call it a win. The goalie included makes no sense & the center is just a big guy.
