I would very much rather not be reminded of this

I’m fine with Dubas slander, but let’s not act like anyone, even oilers management, saw this coming. He had what? 5 goals in 28 playoff games playing with the core 4. No indication of being a playoff monster, or teams would be backing up trucks filled with cash to his home.

Revisionist history is so hot right now.

Oh please, the guy scored 86 goals in 345 games while never breaking 50 points in a season in Toronto playing with some pretty good players. He’s scored 117 goals in 235 games in Edmonton between the ages of 29-31. If anybody says that they saw that coming after he signed his 7 year deal, they’re lying. He has more goals in these playoffs than he had in all but 2 of his 6 regular seasons in Toronto. I’m happy for the guy, but that was never going to happen here, so saying it was our mistake is just dumb.

Of course a Habs fan would post something like this.

This speaks more about McDavid than anyone. He turned a 15 goal scorer grinder into a 50 goal scorer and playoff beast. Let’s not act like he would’ve put up these numbers if he went to any other team. Bobby McMann would have 60 playing on McDavids line just sayin

He played college hockey and started late in the NHL. Progressed every season. Always played with lots of heart. Trained very hard. Best players always want him on their line. A very smart player too.

Yes, he has improved a bunch since joining Edmonton. Not particularly surprising.

Not re-signing Heyman was one of the few things that both the stats heads and the “just watch the game” types agreed on at the time. Nobody thought it was going to age this well. It’s easy to say yes, they clearly should have signed him, but very few were saying that at the time. The Oilers were getting clowned for that contract. It was seen as a little too much for way too long. So often does that type of contract for that type of player age poorly. Every so often, it pays off and the team that offered it looks like a genius. In reality, the Oilers made a bet the Leafs were unwilling (and with good reason) to make, and they won.

I knew when Leafs management let him walk for nothing that it was going to come back to bite them.
It wasn’t just the goals he scored for the Leafs.. It’s his tenacity around the boards and net front presence.
These types of players don’t just appear out of thin air.
Still happy for him. And Brown for that matter.
I hope they complete the comeback.

Hyman was never going to do this here
