Several #PittsburghPenguins prospects broke through into the #NHL lineup in 2023-24 with another batch of prospects seemingly ready to make the roster outright or take advantage of any call up opportunities in 2024-25, including:
NHL Ready Prospects:
• Vasily Ponomarev debuted in the NHL with the Carolina Hurricanes last season, scoring a goal and recording two points in three games. 🚨🍎
• Samuel Poulin appeared in three NHL games last season, going without a point, but continued to transition into a bottom six role in the NHL with the ability to slot into a top six role when needed. 💪
• Filip Kral led the Finnish Liiga with a +28 plus/minus rating last season 🏆 and recorded 37 points in 46 games.
• John Ludvig brought a physical element 💥to the Pittsburgh Penguins blueline last season and looks to build off a strong rookie season.
Call Up Candidates:
• Corey Andonovski led the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins with 99 penalty minutes and recorded 30 points in 63 #AHL games and hopes to debut in the NHL next season.
• Jonathan Gruden scored for the first time in the NHL last season 🚨 and appeared 13 games with Pittsburgh but likely remains a staple with the #WBSPenguins and a proven callup option.
• Ville Koivunen likely needs a season in the AHL to adjust to North America, but with a ton of skill and coming off 56 points in 59 games in the Liiga 🇫🇮 last season, potentially gets a look at the NHL level in 2024-25.
• Jack St. Ivany looked capable in 14 games with Pittsburgh last season but likely starts the season with the #WBSPenguins to get top pairing minutes before sticking in the NHL.
• Joel Blomqvist posted solid numbers as a rookie in the AHL, but likely needs to show consistency and continued development 📈 as “the guy” with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins before making the jump to the NHL.
• Taylor Gauthier dominated the #ECHL last season and gives the organization some security in net given in the case of injury higher on the depth chart.
