From Ben Kuzma’s article in The Province, we have ourselves a whole bunch of juicy quotes from Nikita Tryamkin’s agent Todd Diamond, on how Tryamkin has pretty much done everything except return to the Vancouver Canucks; the NHL team that drafted him 66th overall in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. The 6’8″ Russian defenceman just played another year with the Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg in the KHL, and is most likely coming back to North America next season.

if he becomes more physical and becomes a guy that we can rely on to stand up for petey, quinn, boeser, and all our other young guys that get a lot of slack on a regular basis, then he will be a valuable player. he only makes sense if he can bring those aspects because that’s what the team needs.
So when we look at the depth chart on the L side, it's Hughes, Edler, possibly Juolevi, and Fantenberg as 7th guy. Right side? Not sure if that's his strength or not, but I'd say Myers, Woo and if we sign one or both Tanev and Stecher……..and that's not including Benn or Rafferty. So I don't see him in the top 4, and I am struggling to find a place in the top 7.
sign him to a 2-way deal, if he doesn't play up to par then send him to the AHL

If you did some research on the hockeydb, you can find Nikita Tryamkin is the second best statistics on defencemen of Yekaterinburg Automobilist's roster and on plus side on +/- (+10). Pavel Datsyuk is also on the team this year, but the statistics is really bad with only 5 goals and 17 assists. I am more worried about his expectation on himself too much over his ability like his last stay in Vancouver. You also need to consider the budget next year that Vancouver wouldn't be able to keep players like Chris Tanev, or even the next year to come when Edler got picked in the expansion draft. He can play, but he isn't a point-getting defenceman. And with Ollie Juolevi in bubble and not ready, how can the Canucks not sign with Nikita Tryamkin to at least fill some holes to be missing very soon?

Thanks for the video. I think I'm split on this. At best he is a number five defenceman on this team, that is assuming Stecher is not resigned and Tanev is. I would rather see what Juolevi brings to the team and give him a chance. I would be happy if we sign Tryamkin for cheap but he would have to be willing to go to the AHL if he does not make the team, not sure if he would be willing to do that.
I’d say he has had good time on ice in the KHL which would be great for his development . I watched lots of games when he played for Vancouver and I sure miss his presence on the ice and that super long stick ! Without willie as a coach I think he will do great and get lots of ice time . You don’t need a full team of offensive defence man to be a good team , a mix is best and if he is a defensive defence man I would be glad to have him ! Edler and Tanev are older , soon they will be on the decline so it’s good to have someone to soak some minutes !
