Seems like he could go 7×3 on another team. At that point he’s 36. Maybe he signs another deal 3×3. That’s 30 million when he’s 39 years old. Maybe we could sign him to 4.285×7. He works an extra year but guarantees he finishes his career here and still nets 30 million.
If he ends up actually demanding 7 mil from us…feels like there are younger options that are a bit more expensive but probably better.
So much depends on Brisson and Howden this year.
Can Brisson crack the roster and be a top 6 player? Maybe he could fit on a third line but I think ideally you want him with players who are going to put the puck perfectly on his stick.
Can Howden get to a point where he can keep a consistent spot as a 4th line center and excel? Being a healthy scratch throughout the season makes him worrisome. If they don’t have faith in him, they should trade him as we have ahl players who can do a similar job for league minimum.
I think regardless either Whitecloud or McNabb is traded. Korczac needs a spot and will be much cheaper. Currently, McNabb is the better player. He had an excellent season. His next contract is probably cheaper than his current. Whitecloud was healthy scratched several time and had a worse season than the previous year. Maybe he bounces back but he is 27. Kinda think he is the player he is at this point. Feels like we keep Mcnabb instead, even if Cormier needs a roster spot next year and we let Mcnabb walk.
Unfortunately our other notable prospects aside from Cormier and Brisson are almost certainly another year out, if not two. Would be SICK if Sapovaliv comes to training camp and breaks the roster. Highly unlikely though.
