Rangers Break Through in 1928, Sens Losing Money, Ties More Than Double

It’s a rough time for scorers in the NHL. It’s not great in Ottawa either.

  1. And so starts one of the best things of old NHL. If the Rangers make the finals, the building won't be available due to, THE CIRCUS.

  2. Really loving these history videos. If you were to teach a hockey class I would’ve actually liked school

  3. So in the 1920's the league was trying to radically change the rules to increase scoring and stop ties from happening. And almost 100 years later they are still trying to do this.

  4. This was also the year 44-year-old Lester Patrick of the Rangers strapped on goalie pads and won game 2 of the SCF for the Rangers. New York's goalie got injured during the game, and Eddie Gerard (now the coach of the Maroons) refused Patrick's requests to use a substitute, so Patrick decided to do it himself.

  5. Rangers winning in only their 2nd season probably had people thinking they might become a mainstay in the Cup discussion. Yeah, reality is far from that.

  6. Love that NHL 75th TBTC jersey, a homage to those 1928 Rangers sweaters!

I actually prefer this wordmark over the more angular one they use today.

  7. Hockey Guy, I really enjoy watching your channel. You should do a video on the career of Gilbert Perrault.

  8. Can you make a video on the 1993 playoffs and see what happened or went wrong where the hockey gods don't love us anymore?

  9. Hart Voting for 1927-28 =
1 • Howie Morenz (Montreal Canadiens) (131 Votes)
    2 • Roy Worters (Pittsburgh) (91 Votes)
    3 • Eddie Shore (Boston) (84 Votes)
    4 • George Hay (Detroit) (73 Votes)
    5 • Ching Johnson (NYR) (38 Votes).

  10. The Chicago Black Hawks record was 7-34-3. That's the ninth-worst in NHL history. The worst was the first-year Washington Capitals in 1974-75, with a mind-boggling record of 8-67-5 (they were 1-39-0 on the road). They also had the worst-ever goal differential: minus 265!

The NHL allowed forward passing in the neutral zone only for the 1919-20 season, added the defensive zone in 1927-28 as Shannon said, and finally the offensive zone two years later. That had to be very confusing, especially since the lines were apparently hard to see. Did the players look down frequently? So much for "keep your head up or someone will try to remove it."

  11. We had some of our partners out of Lethbridge in our (USA) office today. I asked, given their location south of Calgary, were they pulling for Edmonton or no. First response: "That's a negative, Ghost Rider."
Then a couple of people chipped in other opinions and a good time was had. But I thought it was pretty interesting!
