Drivers’ Reaction After the Race | 2024 Canadian Grand Prix
yeah I do think that it was a very good team effort today um we made the right calls we remain calm you know when it was sometimes a little bit hectic to make the right call um so yeah very happy with that um uh yeah I think in at times in the race we didn’t look the quickest but yeah we uh we were there at the right time so very happy with that um you know it’s been a challenging weekend again for us but to come out of it as a winner of course I I take that hey Lando uh just how good was it to be fighting for the win again even though I know ultimately you didn’t quite have enough to get it today I mean we did we had every we had the speed to win just uh I got unlucky with the safety car you know I was I was leading by 15 seconds uh and the safety cars screwed me over but uh sometimes it’s like that and uh the same case you know the safety guard helped me in Miami it helped me win a race today it helped me lose a race um I think we would have won otherwise but it’s just the way of racing sometimes it’s on your side sometimes it’s not so it’s it’s is a tougher one to take when it’s not on your side and and you lose out like today yeah it makes emotions because I thought I made one too many mistakes out there maybe been a bit hard on myself because looking back everybody made mistakes at some point in the race um and each have different consequences I think you know the pace was so strong at the end but ultimately it was a m mistake before that put me in P3 which allowed me to take the new tire so so you know you can argue maybe without a mistake I’d have been in P2 on the on the hard tire and who knows what the pace would have been so you know in the end so many positives to take away from this race it wasn’t a positive race for me um pry one felt like one of my worst drives that I’ve had uh bits of good speed at some points but ultimately really poor weekend from for myself um see qualify and put myself back there then I was stuck behind Fernando for a long long time as you would expect and after that lost a lot of ground then lost another bunch of ground and went off and just but anyways the positive is the car is progressing is moving forward so I think if I qualified the way I should have I would have been competing for the win yeah I think um just maybe a few things in the race where if we did things a little bit better you know myself and the team then we could have had a a bit of a better result or maybe a better chance of a better result um you know I think at the end we were a little bit vulnerable to the Mercedes Zone on new tires um and yeah obviously being the the second car in the team or you know the first car that they’re going to attack yeah fantastic I think a race for for the team obviously uh scoring with both cars is always the Target and uh sixth and seventh uh is a good number of points uh extremely difficult race uh with the conditions at majority of the race uh the truck was just 2 m wide you you cannot put a tire outside of that dry line so that uh it’s is very very stressful and uh yeah congratulations to to everybody because it was I think a uh a difficult race in the cic yeah I mean I think uh the track really suited us um we knew that coming into the weekend that this would be a good track for us but um it’s good that we capitalized on it and you know sixth and seventh a lot of points for the team it’s uh you know we have to uh take advantage when when we’re you know uh in a points scoring position the car’s competitive and today we did that little bit of relief at the end to get back into the points for a while while we dropped out and yeah I mean a few Recons we we had um we had a was weird cuz I got told I had a 5sec penalty for a jump start but um I I I know I didn’t jump the lights so I was a bit confused so I obviously questioned it but um but then I I remember I feel like when I was finding the revs for the start it’s um I felt like maybe the car like cuz I’m watching the lights but I felt maybe the car was moving so uh yeah P said obviously we had a bit of an issue so perhaps a clutch or something yeah very very happy uh especially after the pretty dramatic uh start uh we had a a small touch with cico and all of a sudden I was facing the wall on the inside and all the cars passing uh next to me so uh yeah clearly not the ideal style almost dropped to last and then after that I decent battle with him um managed to get past him and uh and then yeah what a race after that just uh very tricky uh had to make some pretty risky call with a hard Tire which I thought from the position we were in if I wanted to recover I had to take some risk and uh looking back it was a lap too early but then you know inside the car I knew if I don’t do it now then it’s probably going to be too late and I won’t get an advantage yeah um not the happiest to be honest um obviously we we started last and got into the points with both cars which is amazing for the team but um you know I did my part of the job you know being a team player being the nice guide um but too nice uh I am but um yeah we I had to to let Pi go at the end which I’ve done you know I’ve always followed the instructions that I’ve been given um but for for no reason really because you know we were not going to catch Danielle that was the reason for the call um and obviously I’m losing I’m losing a point there um you know being too nice is uh is not the the right attit to have in Formula One but I show that I’m a team player and that’s what matters hey Nico that was a heck of a a catlike response to miss there you spinning Yuki to know that kind of what went through your mind when you saw him sliding across the track in front of me yeah I mean Cod Brown probably was I don’t know I just tried to react and tried to stop it and then somehow avoid him but it it must have been like you know by a few millimeters it felt very very close um so I half closed my eyes already I was you know Racing for the impact but yeah managed luckily somehow to to escape it obviously the team gambled on the wets that was the right thing to do in that early phase and it kind of put you in a position to almost take points today how did you kind of feel overall yeah I think obviously first 10 laps were going really well but then it dried out and all that came undone again so uh um but yeah that was that um we knew not you know about about that risk or not risk about that scenario and then um no I think clean race no mistakes at least yeah it didn’t feel like we got the best out of it today um with all the opportunity that the race offered uh we didn’t seem to capitalize on that so that’s disappointing um but you know we’ll we review it and really try to understand it right now it’s all a bit blurry but um yeah there was lots of opportunity that’s for sure we didn’t we didn’t get any points so uh got to got to look into things obviously had that slow stop which obviously dropped you back after all that hard work do you think without that you would have maybe had it or was it just ultimately the pace and wasn’t enough to to keep in we had one very slow and one just medium slow um and then I I also think we we pitted for inas off the the full wets too early and and had to take another inter which felt unnecessary but I I have to look into it properly to see to make sure I’m right and saying that but um yeah um felt like there was something coming there in the beginning of the race and uh nothing to show for it I think with the conditions we had today it was probably the right thing to do to try and try and do something and I think it helped a bit to have a bit more downforce but still yeah we made progress but mainly due to other cars um making mistakes Etc so Pace wise we’re still not not in then at the moment hey Yuki right up until the last couple of laps you were driving such a strong race just T me through that moment where you just ran off track and obviously lost the car yeah um that was my thought um yeah was struggling quite a lot with the Break um quite early stages but yeah um my mistake how tough is that to take given the cars obviously been so strong this weekend and you were very much on chance to score points yeah uh such a stupid move but uh yeah but what it is what it is what it is at the moment that was just another tough tough race obviously didn’t really kind of solve the issue but yeah it was quite a bit of going on but for me it was bit of lonely race especially yeah during the mid second thing it was just kind of driving alone so yeah not the smoothest weekend but uh what s already planned in the factory to be checking to obviously this weekend I don’t really have much confidence all together with with the cup yeah not a lot of pace this weekend not even in the inter Tire we we expected maybe to be a bit stronger there but yeah a lot of sliding around and no no feeling with the car and yeah when once it dried out we were starting to make some kind of progress and yeah I was also having to take quite a bit of risks you know to stay in the BRS train and overtake and I did a driver mistake but um yeah not ideal not not our weekend for anyone in the team and uh we’ll try and reset and and go again um when I look at the the race as a whole it seemed like we kind of we didn’t take much risk in our strategy but we were making good calls the whole the whole time you know if you look at the house they kind of they did a good gamble on the wets at the beginning of the race um you look at some of the guys that stayed out on the inter uh not pitting for a new one in the middle of the race um we kind of just did what felt was right for us and um and even if it didn’t work out in sometimes we kept getting back the positions we we kept fighting back into the points and I was enjoying it out there them kind of conditions mixed conditions there’s a lot to play for and I was having a lot of fun uh um and then two laps in a row two drivers went off in the same Corner the first one I lost the position I had to avoid the crash and then the lap after caros obviously had his spin honestly there’s not much more to say apart from uh the engine issue cost us everything then at one point uh we decided we tried to go on the Slicks when we knew it was going to be more changes that more chances that it wouldn’t work but we had to test something because anyway with the engine issues we had we would have been out the points and anyway and um that was it really uh after that it was just uh extremely tricky to uh do all the engine changes uh that the team was asking me at the same time we’re still losing a second and a half per straight so we’ve got to look into the engine issue because uh yeah that’s going to be tricky for the rest of the season no just not good enough too many mistakes um two very punishing ones and um yeah for sure disappoint with myself after few feeling like I was driving great this weekend so move on and uh and just look ahead

I struggle hard to understand why Logan Seargent is still in the F1 grid. He spins and crashes in every race… Like Latifi used to do.. and this has caused a lot of problems for those serious drivers ahead who'd all worked really hard to gain advantages with their skills. The F1 lineup should have a skillset of less extreme differences between drivers' intuitive racing skills at this apex level of the sport, I feel.

Lots of level-headed and humble reactions from the drivers – I always appreciate that and makes me root for each of them.
Ricciardo's car did very slowly begin to inch forward, though he didn't 'accelerate' till the lights turned. Fair if that's a penalty, but question: was it moving forward mistakenly due to engine rev vibration (like if the clutch was out and brake wasn't engaged)? I realize they don't have clutches anymore but I don't know how launch sequences work either.
