Former NHL scout and founder of Recrutes, Grant McCagg, discussed some of the rumblings he heard from scouts at the combine (forward to 24:29):
Consensus is Levshunov to Blackhawks. However, all of the guys he talked to weren’t high on Levshunov and hope he goes 2nd. McCagg has also picked Levshunov as one of his most overrated prospects in this class
Verbeek and/or the Ducks aren’t big on Russians (not surprising) so they probably don’t go Demidov or Silayev. But THEN he says the two most popular names he heard at 3 were Yakemchuk and Sennecke
Sennecke sounds like the biggest riser in this class. McCagg polled scouts and every one had Sennecke in the top 2 in puck handling, hockey sense, and playmaking. Mentioned multiple times that he wouldn’t be surprised if he goes in the top 5
Blue Jackets and Canadiens both seem like they’re going with a forward. Either Demidov, Lindstrom, or Sennecke. Habs probably prefer Demidov, unsure about Jackets
FWIW, I should also mention that McCagg was one of the earliest people saying the Ducks were leaning toward Carlsson last season.
