Not that we could hold these guys forever but so much talent slips through teams hands

We have a storied history with giving the Panthers the better half of trades, don’t we.

As far as young roster management, every team has players that they either can’t hold a spot for or who seemed expendable at the time. While we don’t have that great of a pipeline from Bridgeport, it’s not like we haven’t blown it all up 4 times in the last 25 years and just not seen true success. Everything comes in cycles.

This is the Lou cycle. He bet on win now. Somewhere along the way, when things were working, he got high in his own supply again and tripped down. Fired Barry. Signed long term old friends. Made some defendable decisions had the roster panned out as intended, but it just never came together for this core.

But now there’s this new arena that needs asses in seats, and they’re not paying to see a bunch of kids they don’t know. It’s like the late 90s all over if you do that. The few blossoming players will walk or have to be dealt. We sign some aging but not done yet star and a few role players. Hit big on one prospect. Then never win more than a round or two of the playoffs.

Best part of being an Islanders fan born post-Dynasty in 88 is that ive never known this team to be elite. When we are good and have something worth playing for, they’re some of the best seasons of my life. But when we don’t win it all, or when we have a situation like we’re in now, it’s easy for me to remember… We are the “other” team. The 4 straight cups are 2 generations ago. I’m not happy we don’t win every year, but I sure as hell am not surprised.

The joys of being an Isles fan.

  4. While looking back on guys like Rodrigues, Moore, and Verhaeghe is fun. It’s not like these guys lit the world on fire here or were expected to be contributors, and we decided to pass. Moore and Rodrigues went undrafted, so arguably every team whiffed on them.
