How do we feel about John Hynes Tenure So Far? #minnesotawild #mnwild #nhl

On today’s episode of Locked on Wild, we take a look at the Wild season after John Hynes took over. We discuss how Hynes changed the team while still operating within the same system that was used under Dean Evason. We discuss the adjustments in game Hynes found during the year, his usage of Joel Eriksson Ek and other key players, and his willingness to put everything on the table with the team in a playoff hunt. We discuss the areas that will need to be improved, and the bizarre refusal to move Marcus Johansson off the second line to the point it led to the team missing out on the playoffs.

  1. Hynes is Guerin's friend. Guerin hires and signs his friends. The good ol'boys club. Hynes is all about self-preservation, too. Your GM just re-signed a bunch of old veterans. His guys. So of course Hynes has to play them. Again, self-preservation.

  2. Be very careful about hiring a coach that has won a cup with another team. Only 3 in nhl history have won cups with 2 or more teams.

  3. Hynes lack of trust in young players will be his demise as the dependence on old slow vets to appease Guerin will lead to playoff failure and the frustration and departure of 97 IMO. Hynes USA experience this summer is very telling. Mediocre Loser all day long.

  4. The only real negative i had on hynes last yr was Johansson. Other than that he was toe tied by the roster but thay should chg with the kids available to start this season. Ohgren, khusnidinov all season and possibly heidt makes a big difference than only having them for what 30 total games cpmbined last yr

  5. I don't think he did bad with what he had. Stepping into a 4-11-5 team and ending in the middle with the players he had is a positive.

  6. I was puzzled by the hiring initially as he was basically a .500 coach with no playoff series wins. After Dean's firing, he barely went .500 and missed the playoffs. Watching Team USA severely underachieve in the World Championships is another strike against him. So far, not impressed at all. Only thing that he's got going for him is that Matt Boldy took off during his tenure and is turning into a world-class player.

  7. My thoughts on today's show
Starting with Hynes, he doesn't make sense to be our head coach, his dis dain to play the kids is what got him fired from Nashville, that's how we Fiala
Just not a good fit, regarding Gus Bus
He was the second best goalie in 22-23 season,, with a 931 save percentage, only ulmark was better,,
It seems ulmark will be on the market
This year too but he will command a 6-7 million a year deal
So Gus is looking very good to all teams, his stock continues to rise from his recent play, and if there is one thing Billy can do,, is make deals
So I'm looking at least a number one
Pick for Gus, or a Top end player,
Anderson in LA would make sense
    We will see soon enough

  8. And Carcus goes over to Worlds, scores 3 goals, 3 assists in 4 games? WHERE THE HELL WAS THAT GUY????

Maybe Billy G can move Carcus being he showed what going to Europe and playing for a coach that kicks his ass when he doesn't work can do for Carcus. I just don't want him here! Billy touted his speed and talent in the end of the year presser. Well, go sell it to another team where he can go underperform Billy! WE AIN'T BUYIN!

  9. Jury is out, Hynes did a decent job given the injuries and underachievers that you’ve covered. My question is why do all the leagues recycle coaches non-stop. It seems like the good old-boys club.
I did like his in game shuffling of the roster and taking some chances. We’ll know soon enough when he gets to start fresh from G1 if he’s the coach. Would love to have a Berube type of coach, as he likes physicality which this group lacks.

  10. Anyone watch the USA vs Czechia game? I did…I watched the whole thing. Hynes couldn't get it done with basically an all-star line up, and seemed to bury his head in his little notebook when the entire building was going bananas…no coaching, no yelling at his players, no pacing along the back bench, no NOTHING…..just buried eyes in a notebook, pretending to write stuff.

I like his ability to make changes on the fly, a lot harder than it looks. However, this year is a big year for Hynes…his verdict is still up for debate, for me at least.

  11. Seth, you are spot on you hit all the triggerpoints great show keep it going the The Monday show with Alex Micheletti he is so knowledgeable all them micheletti know their hockey. They were all great players.

  12. I take your point on Rossi. However, they burned a year of Marat's ELC…to make him a 3rd line center? That's bad management and an indication that their thinking is too rigid.

  13. Every coach has strengths and weaknesses. Because I saw improvement from Rossi, Boldy, Faber, and even Ek I’m hoping JH can squeeze a few more wins during this last year of negative csp$. Can he help the Wild build a winning team identity moving forward? I hope so.
