1:15 "that money's already on the cap"… kind of a misleading statement and not really true. It ignores the fact that other players on the team already have extensions for next season eating into that 6.5m of space Pietrangelo currently occupies. The extensions for next season of Schenn, Blais, Faulk, Scandella and MacEachern that have already been signed make up an additional 5.8m of cap space on next years cap that wasn't on this years cap. Not to mention the other ufa and rfa players they have to sign including Dunn.
He isn’t coming to Toronto… he doesn’t want to and his life in in st Loui , he will take a haircut or a short term to stay there . Dubas and idiotic fans need to find a realistic right handed D
I think the Blues will really shake up their roster to keep Petrangelo. They are a defense first minded team. Tarasenko will likely no longer be a great player due to the bad shoulder. Blues fan

With the Donald-19 pandemic going around,I don't think players have any idea what they want. A year or two of big money,or longer deal of less money. Teams probably don't know what to do either. Cap maybe $81m,doesn't mean teams are going to take that in next season.Gate driven league and who knows when we'll be back in the stands.

Sounds like wishful thinking Canada. Maybe theres some truth to it, Canadians wanting to play in Canada, but other than Vancouver-I dont see any Canadian teams with clear bright futures. Edmonton,& Toronto MAYBE-but the Leafs have no defense,& cap issues, Ive heard. Edmonton has no goalie, bad defense,& superstars who only seem to care about playing offense,& making pretty plays. Regular season powerhouse, play off underachievers. Without some grit,& defense-they aint going anywhere deep. Of the 2, I think Toronto has a better shot at getting it right. They dont seem as soft as Edmonton.
If guys want to go to teams that seem set up for the future-I think NYR, Carolina,Vancouver,& my Avs..maybee Philly-seem to be the best bets to be great-the next 2-3 yrs or longer. Of course there are no guarantees,& COVID can change things. But you guys always seem to think every good player is going to a Canadian team,& every good trade will be pulled off by a Canadian team. Im here in Denver,& enjoy watching the show. I understand you obviously are gonna talk mostly Canadian teams-makes sense.But there is a reason no Canadian team has won a Cup, in seemingly forever,& wont win this year either. BTW-Gaudreau is a good reg season player. But I think we have plenty of evidence he is soft-mentally,& physically. And I cant see Tatlor Hall signing with Calgary-but we will see.
The guy on the bottom of the screen is out to lunch. The Leafs will contend for the Stanley Cup next year with Alex pietrangelo. Honest to God no bloody way. Alex pietrangelo is 30 he will command 9 to 9 and 1/2 million dollars a year on a minimum 6 year deal. GTFO to the guy in the bottom of the screen. They can use that money and get to really good young Defenders. Five years ago I would have done the deal not now. The Leafs are not in a position to contend right now

What does Pietrangelo want, if we are guessing? 9 million? 9.5? To do that Toronto would have to deal Nylander and Johnsson and maybe even Kerfoot. Or Andersen and Nylander. Remember, they will have to re-sign Mikheyev and Dermott (and Rodrigues if they like him) and that combined is gonna be close to 5 million on the cap. It would leave us with a much weaker forward core, or a core made up of some semi-unproven players mixed in (ex. Robertson, Barabanov) which may work but is it worth it?? A Pietrangelo deal also likely means no more Rielly in a few years too….
Honestly, I think the better play is to sign a couple of blueliners that will round out and actually improve the blueline. Guys like Tanev, Gudas and Demelo are all desirable, quality defenders and the liklihood is that you could get all three for close to (maybe a bit more) than the price of one guy. Oh and you can resign some UFAs and keep a relatively strong forward group if you so choose.
