I’ve been very steadfast on keeping him. Not for 10m. 9 max. The good news is there’s no way he’s getting 10m
SeesawLimp
Love him, know he’s brings a lot of things to the game outside of points.
Even 8.5 is a lot of money for a guy with a career high of 68 points.
No_Bank_330
All it takes is 1 team and the free agent classes have been pretty weak.
Very possible.

Snow the goalie says a lot of things.
diegler74
Ya, Anthony is pretty connected and said he will get 10-10.5. Which I would be totally against. I’m a fan of TK too. Just because you have the space you don’t need to spend it just because. This is a important next two years for Briere.
izall4
I effed up the title. It should have read “Snow the Goalie DEBATE whether TK will get $10M.” Anthony says yes, and agrees that’s the right course. Russ says it’s too much. Both make good points!
I’ve been thinking no more than $9M, and was hoping for $8.5M. If they do sign him to $10M or more I’ll be concerned but won’t think it’s the end of the world. I don’t see TK turning into another Coots…we’ll definitely get at least 4/5 more great years out of TK. Coots looks cooked (from injuries) in the second year of an 8-year $7.75M deal.
jgruntz1974
It’s a huge mistake if they give him $10 million, even if the cap goes up. If you look at players making $10 million, Konecny isn’t in that group. Same with $9 million. He’s at best $8 million and that’s even more than what the Flyers should pay.
qmak420
San Fillipo sounds like he doesn’t understand how hockey contracts work.
He argued 10.5 million for 8 years is better for the Flyers than 8 million for 4 years. Usually players will come down on AAV for longer term, not the other way around.
If TK would sign for 8 mill for 4 years, you absolutely pull the trigger on that.
Streetkillz13
Love TK. I don’t want him nor do I think he’s good enough for 10M+. He’s never hit 70 points and is bad on the PP.
I’d rather take a step back this year and acquire an asset than resign a player who isn’t franchise altering to franchise altering money.

TK is great. You do not pay this man more than 8×8.
Even that rate is, you know, because of feelings instead of disciplined team management

😂😂😂
And I want TK to show up and demonstrate effort consistently throughout a season, but some things are just never gonna happen.
cheeseyboy44
If he dosnt want to take 8 let him walk. 8 max. We ain’t winning a cup anytime soon makes no sense to lock this guy up for that much
Jerrysdad43
Really have a chance to avoid the mistakes that have plagued this franchise since the start of the salary cap era. Trade him and get value, let another team make the mistake of giving him that deal.
longdongsilver3
I listened to the podcast and understand the logic that 10.5 will be market rate for a 75 point player in 4 years but I still don’t get it. First he has never hit 75 points and second that would put him as a top 15 earner in the league. I love tk to death but there is no way he would be the best player on half the teams in the league. $8m really feels like a sweet spot.
DanTreview
Fuck anyone here who says Kevin Hayes has anything to do with any of this. Just fuck right off.
Steppyjim
The only 2 forwards in the nhl making 10 right now are Barkov and Eichel. Comparing TK to Barkov is silly. He’s a 1C who scores a ton more points. What people talking about this 10mil stuff are on about is likely comparing him to Eichel. Which is also silly. Yes. Eichel and TK are the same age and scored identical points this year. Eichel is also a C, has had a 78 and 81 point season, and despite missing essentially 2 years for a neck injury, has 100+ more career points than TK. It’s not a comparison.
You only get “TK is a 10 million dollar player” if you’re either a) your agent, or b) you googled his point total and found Eichel alongside him. TK is great. He’s probably a 9 million player, but not a 10. Not yet.
Flannel__Friday
Beyond the cap hit, Konecny is hurt every year. People hope his arc is like Marchand, but I think it will be more like Brendan Gallagher who really started to get hurt more often in his late 20s. If we sign Konecny, I imagine having another Couturier like situation as a very likely outcome.
rad-tad
Am I taking crazy pills? 100pt players get 10 mill. 50 goal scores get 10 mill. TK is a 30/30 guy right now. That’s 7.5-8.5 tops. This narrative is heinous
If TK got $10M he’d be the 15th highest paid player in the NHL (all positions). And he definitely ain’t that!
When you go down further, it’s even hard to argue that TK’s worth as much as any player over $9M.
It’s not until you get to the $8.5M range where he’s competitive, but still not clearly better than all players there. There’s even a bunch of players under $8M who produce more than TK.
All that said, all those players are at different stages of their contracts. A guy in his prime now who signed a $9M contract 3/4 years ago is likely going to be a better player than a guy who signs for $9M today.
But even factoring in future value for a contract signed now ($9M will be worth less 5+ years from now), and factoring in cap increases, and considering TK is basically a 70-pt player at best (so far), it’s hard to justify paying him over $9M, and almost impossible at $10M.
The one comment San Filippo made that could make a $9M deal palatable is the fact that if the rebuild stalls in 4 years and TK is still in the middle of his prime at age 30 producing 70 pts/season, it shouldn’t be hard to trade him for an excellent return. On the other hand, if they keep him and he continues apace, and Michkov comes over, and we acquire a 1C and 1D by trade or free agency, TK could be a major factor in playoff runs to come at his peak.
Ideally, I’d love to sign him for $8.5M for 8 years (7 years if he’d accept it, but it seems teams today are forced to sign 26-28 year-olds to 8 years no matter what — it’s a terrible system!). Anything significantly over that and a trade might be the wiser move.
We’ll probably know which way they’re going on this by July 2. If he’s not extended by then, they’re probably looking to trade him.
It’s gonna be interesting.
ProfessorDerp22
I love TK but $10m is too much, even taking into consideration the cap going up year over year.
MushuTR
8-8.5 or trade.

It pains me to say this because I truly like Ant and Russ, both for their work, and also on a personal level. I’ve been listening to their show for years and still enjoy the show quite a bit. Never miss an episode.
But I’ve got to be honest. There have been a few times this year (not many, but a few) where frankly I’ve questioned their objectivity. This is one of those times. No I don’t think Flyers give them talking points. But influence doesn’t need to be overt. When people pay you, you will inevitably, unconsciously favor them in your opinions over time.
I don’t know whether he’s even consciously aware of it or not, but I feel like I’m listening to Ant act as a team mouthpiece trying to mentally prepare us fans for the inevitable future where TK gets a new contact.
What Ant is saying here defies all logic. It just does. Saying someone is still in their “prime” at 30 and beyond? No. Even Gretzky’s production declined after age 30. Because everyone’s does. Because they are human. NHL “prime” is 25 to 30.
There were other things too, but not worth getting into.
Again, I still like the guys but this is one of those eps that I listen and think “damn I wish they hadn’t signed that deal, so I didn’t have to question their integrity in the back of my mind.”
