Gustafssons non reaction makes me think its playoff hockey and he is moving onto the next possession. Its going to be the first of many big hits or near hits… Wondering could this have been called interference? As Gus doesnt play the puck. Though both he and Bennett know if he does its going to be a helluva hit
Looked like he was lining him up for a close call to send the message to play head's up or else. He could have smoked Gustafsson. He didn't. There it is.
Was the puck in the vacinity? If a player is taller than his opponent, it behooves that player to be responsible for his body parts, such as elbow contact.
Gliding has nothing to do with charging in the NHL. "Violently check" are the key words to go by, and speed is one of the criteria for charging, and Bennett had a ton. He missed, but he definitely tried a Trouba chickenwing due to missing. I'd give this a 2 out of 5 Troubas. If he'd actually managed to hit, it'd have been at least a 3.
As Brad Marchand, the wise one of all things dirty said: "People don't want to say it, but part of playoffs is trying to hurt every player on the other team. The more guys you take out, the more advantage your team has" And who was he talking about? Sam Bennett.
That elbow was way up! Good thing he missed. Plus he never had any intention of playing the puck, couldnt care less where the puck was, where it was going, if it was even in play. What a muppet!
Rangers fan. Nothing wrong with it or any of Tkachuk or Lombergs hits. Mikkola smoked Chytil at the end for the cherry on top. Chytil shouldn't have been playing at all.
Man fans have gotten so soft. This is the NHL. The Playoffs. The hardest trophy in team sports is Lord Stanley. 82 games for a contending team thats playing anywhere from 75% to 100% during the season. Then the possibility of another 28 games at 150% during the post season. Games going past regulation and it's still 5 on 5 until it's over. Longer shifts. Higher intensity. More emotion plus rivalries. "Every team says bad things about players like Marchand and Bennett umtil they're playing for you. Any team in the NHL would love to have a player like Bennett on their team." That's what PK and Messier said. The Panthers last year played 100% to clinch game 81, to go against the record breaking President Trophy winning Boston Bruins in the first round, go down 3-1, force a game 7 by winning 2/3 in the Garden including game 7, 2 minutes left Panthers down 3-2 and pull Bobby Shmurda, tie it to force OT, and do something that has never been done in the NHL in it's history. To then go 8-1 to the Finals but we find out the truth post conference after the series loss. Ekblad broke his foot in the first round, dislocated his shoulder twice, tore his oblique, and multiple protocols for concussions. Gudas had high ankle sprain which is a 6-8 week recovery time, he took off one period. Tkaclutch broke his sternum, went back on the ice, and scored the tying goal to send VGK to OT. Reinhart, Bennett and Momtour all had shoulder injuries and needed surgery and rehab immediately during the summer. Lust's injury in the ECF last year was not disclosed but he was out for the Finals.
Clean hit, elbow was abit high on the hit. No charging as he stops his stride well before the hit, the hit is to the side because gust sees Bennett coming & one handed pokes the puke, then stops before Bennett makes a full body hit so instead Bennett gets half the body elbow would have never connected with gust head as it wasn’t really that close after missing so if it was connected there would have been less raise to his posture as you lower self before contact then push into it well hitting witch raises poster anyone taught to drop your shoulder is wrong as that’s how you break your collar. Just like the Ben hit on toews it looks worse than it truly is but clean
The same people saying he intended for the elbow to connect are the same people who think his "sucker punch" on Marchand was intentional. If that sucker punch on Marchand was intentional then no way is he missing an open elbow like that…
As a ranger fan what's noteworthy to me is that Bennett's attempt to crush Gus led to a turnover and scoring chance a few seconds after the clip ends. Gus bailed and who could blame him, but Bennett did his job effectively. Those type of hits, along with Tkachuk's on Vinnie go a long way playing into another player's psyche the rest of the game.

Trouble Train needs to start accepting passengers…. Sadly Rempestein/Rempe isn't in the line up…..

He sure is coming in fast, where's the radar speed? Maybe we should start clocking players haha, seems like a charge to me though.
This is a nothing burger. Definition of playoff hockey. His reaction says all you need to know. Took the hit, play on.
Have your say on a clean play??? Lol
That elbow was pretttttyyy close to connecting.
He missed the Trouba special (flying elbow).
A dirty player tried to line up the opponent but missed. The intent was there but he missed.

Bennett’s living on the edge there 😂
Clean
Both Tkachuk and Bennett played right on the edge

Clean playoff hockey.
Everytime I looked at the screen I see a Ranger bleeding or tissue stuck in their nose. Maybe they should keep their heads up and on a swivel 😉
Seriously though, these two teams are going at it hard in game 1, but Florida seems to be able to take it…. not so sure about the Rangers.

Played dirty against Boston and he continues 👎🏻👎🏻
Man, when is Bennett going to get his? Such a dirty little pr*#k!

It looked like charging to me, he camia long way to deliver that check

The Assassin at work !
He leaves the feet of the ice a bit, other then that, crystal clean.

Let the crying begin
The guy would get away with murder on anyone they never call anything on him. It's like they're afraid to call anything on the guy.
I wanna see how many strides he took and is speed going into the hit.
need the full angle/ video of bennet entering the zone
He knows he is going to miss
He braces
He is a goon.
