Well, the Montreal Canadiens are no longer in the Alexis Lafreniere sweepstakes, ever since eliminating the Pittsburgh Penguins in their 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs qualifying play-in series. Though this means the Penguins now have a chance to draft the Rimouski star, it means the Habs won’t even get their pre-determined 9th overall pick if they get eliminated by the Philadelphia Flyers in the actual playoffs.
Instead, the Habs draft pick has moved to 16th overall, with the potential of moving up to 28th, 30th, or 31st overall depending on their Stanley Cup Playoffs results.
This video asks the question, who will the Habs draft? There’re a lot of great prospects, but the debate as to who should be next best among the Habs top prospects has opened up much wider with their victory.

they should have waited to do the draft until after the play in series. It was a mistake to have the draft lottery in june or whenever it was then have this happen. Imo They should redo the whole lottery. And this is coming from a kings fan
Now the highest the Habs can draft is 16th in the event of a defeat in the 1st round. Maybe Seth Jarvis or Braden Schneider will still be available. This scenario is ok but I would like Bergevin to adopt the attitude of the fisherman who only wants to catch a big fish. First I see 2 scenarios: Going as high as possible in round 1 with a major trade or a very special offer to attract Taylor Hall.
Seth jarvis or maybe hendrix lapierre
I was so hyped drafting top 10 all year long…
Right now MTL has a solid base with younger talent. If they stay on track they will have a good team.
With that being said………….Caufield > Perfetti
Hopefully Jarvis. I think the guy has 1st line potential. People are sleeping on him
As usual Bergevin will chase after low profile and will not make any attempt to make a splash and will stick to his failed plan due to his arrogance and won't admit he's failed! Just watch Hab fans ,will be yet disappointed again with Bergevin sitting on his hands and doing minor deals or maybe maybe making another blunder and spending big cash on another bust like Karl Alzner
that's playing minor hockey in Montreal's affiliate!
Should Montreal try to trade to whatever team picks 1st overall or if that doesnt work should Montreal offersheet Lafreniere in 3 years time (im guessing 13M assuming hes all that he cracks up to be)
They should draft … nail yakopov the GOAT
I’d take Seth Jarvis or trade pick give 2nd to move up in the draft?
Kaiden Guhle maybe?
I’m sure even the NHL is pissed that Lafrenière isn’t going to the Habs. They would’ve made a lot of money
crazy i was waiting for this yesterday . i have no idea of the draft from 16 to 31 except for probably connor Zary and Ryan o Rourke but when i look at the depth chart of the Habs, after Weber and Petry on the right side , they have nobody great… Josh Brooks is still doubtful, Noah Juulsen as well (i am still so mad when i think Sebastien Aho was still available that year). i am still not impress of the decision of the GM and Timmins especially when the GM during Radulov debacle says in the media : if you want loyalty, buy a dog… this is probably proof that nobody in the elite caliber will never sign as a free agent in Montreal. I hate this management team of Geof Molson and Marc Bergevin.
I think they should go all in on Sanderson
Should Montreal go after Sidney Crosby Penguins need to start rebuilding offer there 1rst round pick and prospects 👍
With the uncertainty with college sports do you think teams will avoid most American prospects or will there be a increase of teams signing them than loaning them to Europe or CHL
Noah Gunler is another guy who could be worth it at 16 as he has possible Pastrnak potential. He has a great shot that could fit well alongside playmakers like Suzuki or Kotkaniemi.
Hendrix Lapierre or Seth Jarvis would be the best picks
since we fuck our chance for lafreniere… i just hope it goes to Pittsburgh to haunt the habs for 10 years
Interesting take but I wonder if the Penguins won 1st overall if the Pens decide to rebuild it would give them a reason to think about trading Crosby. Crosby has always been a Habs fan and I wonder if he asks to be traded to them to have some of his prime years with his childhood favourite team.
We already dropped out of top10 so i'd take conference final and 28th pick over losing and getting 16th. Its been so long (2010) since Montreal had a good cup run and we all know having good players doesnt mean getting far (cough cough tampa bay). So, moving on from my deception from seeing them win agaisnt the Pens, i'll be very happy if they go far and if they dont well we'll have the 16th
Doesnt mean a trade cant happen… MB loves to make big splashes and nothing would be bigger than acquiring the 1st OA. Weve got the picks, the prospects and some young players of interests. I could definitely see WPG or EDM considering trading Laf at the right price
If Pittsburgh wins that #1 pick I'm gonna be so angry
The lapierre concussion year thingny is outdated. he was not out of play this year due to concussion, but because of his spine or somewhting like that. it has been confirmed by his doc
Poirier seems like the best option for Montreal IMO, assuming they pick somewhere between 16-24th
They’re still really good players! I don’t understand habs fans who thinks winning against Pittsburgh was the worst thing we could do, like sure it would have been great drafting 1st or 9th overall, but now you’re in the playoffs and you’re still drafting a really good player. Last year the Colorado Avalanche selected Alex Newhook at 16th overall, I wouldn’t be against this type of player!
I'd love to see a video some possible early 2nd round prospects please!
Jean luc foudy?
Eff it ! were this deep…Covid Cup it is !!! ole all the way !!!
then when the seasons done an its time to trade again….guess we have 13 reasons we cant sit down an talk
I'm hoping askorov. Used him down the road, help Price, or package him up for a top tier player.
Habs don't have a lot of promising prospects on the left wing, then I would go for Rodion Amirov. Very high-talented underrated guy. And it's a safe choice.
Honestly im okay they have a pick out of the top 10. They can still get pretty good players from 15-20, Lappierre, Peterka, Jarvis, Amirov all still solid prospects aswell
bergevin acquired a boatload of picks for this draft with the sole purpose of trading up or trading for a player who will make the team much better next year. the number one pick was never in his actual plans. there is also the option of another offer sheet. with the cap frozen there are a lot of teams that must relieve themselves of salary or will be unable to sign all of their choice players. this is a perfect opportunity to take advantage of. there is also kovalchuk who is rumored to be returning to montreal next year. i really think that you will see some 5 star wheeling and dealing from montreal at the draft. GO HABS
Do a vid on the new team the kracken
I needed this video
Anything but Holloway. I dont even know why that guy is ranked that high. Yes he was on a bad team but that shouldnt affect a 1st rounder that much. A real 1st rounder should be able to carry his team. This dude is trash.
Go all the way.
Joni Jurmo if they beat Philly
WOOOW I knew if we won against Pittsburgh we would lose a chance at LaFreniere, but, I didnt know that winning against Pittsburgh would drop us from 9th to 16th Seat in the draft! WTF!
They should have just lost they're still rebuilding!
MTL is not winning the cup and to add insult to injury where facing the 1st seat of East and not Who the 5th seat Pittsburgh Penguins would play.
WTF, What's the point of this!
The Habs are in the playoff, your there to win the CUP, not try and lose for a better draft pick. That's insane talk, who plays to loss. GO HABS GO 25 could be ours.
If the Montreal Canadiens have the 16Th pick overall in the first round , does that mean they will be drafting 16th in all subsequent rounds with their own picks? Thanks
Honestly, we've got a lot of young talent, yes Laf would have been amazing, but you play to win no matter what, and I think we showed we were a force to be considered. We need so good goal scoring wingers though
