Would you trade #11, 2023 (top 10 protected) 1st, and Bordeleau for David Pastrnak?
Boston hopefully won’t be willing to trade Pasta within the Division. Maybe even conference. Which could help the Sharks chance or hurt us if he goes to a Division Rival. Also I don’t see Boston trading for Bordeleau. He’s NHL ready and if Boston cleaning house I’d expect them to try and Tank for a chance at the number 1 draft pick next year.

It's a great idea but SJ doesn't even have a GM yet. Also, they don't have a lot of cap space before Ferraro and Kahkonen signing so a roster player with salary would need to be going back.
No. Sharks should only make a deal if they had an agreed contract extension with him since it will cost a lot to acquire him. The issue is, however, would we even have the cap space for him? Meier would be gone no doubt if we acquired and extended Pasta, and we would have to move another contract or two. In addition, we don't know what will happen with the Kane contract and whether it might still hit against our cap. I think the Sharks have a lot of other priorities to take care of this summer before we can even think about acquiring another player.
assuming the Sharks would want to give up the assets (Timo+1st at a min.) it would take to get Pasta, why on earth would he want to sign here? he's a pending UFA after next season.
I actually agree with everything you said, and how he would improve everyone around him, but he doesn''t make us a playoff performer. We go from creamy middle to best of the creamy middle and still miss the playoffs. What we need is competent defenseman and a goalie. Only then can we start trading away assets for star players.
This one hits me different because the 2014 draft was the first one I really got into and I wanted Pasta for the Sharks. When he fell to us I was thrilled!! Only for us to trade back and draft Goldobin instead, I'm still pissed thinking back on that.
It's a nice fantasy, but I think I'll pass. Trading picks and prospects for superstars have not worked well in our favor. We finally have a decent prospect pool, why mess with that?
Pasternak is overrated. Yes statistically it makes sense and the Hertl connection would be great but a lot of his success was because of his line mates in BOS. When he was on the 2nd line without Marchand and Bergeron he didn't do as well

It isn't this year's #11 pick I would worry about trading for Pastrnak, but next year's likely high pick in a draft deep in high level forwards. I know you said 2023 top 10 protected 1st rounder but if they get Pastrnak, they can kiss that 2023 top 10 pick goodbye (2023 is deep in blue chip forwards, many of them centers). All in all, I guess it all depends upon what contracts SJ can move out without handing out higher draft picks. Making this trade would be a great marketing opportunity for Plattner to get bums in the seats sooner than later. Should they clear enough space to fit Pastrnak (for his new 2023 contract should they have an extension in place), SJ still needs to move salary out to obtain a 2nd or 3rd line center or they still have the same issue as last year..Hertl and Couture spread too thin playing too many defensive minutes and too many pk minutes. I wonder if Boston would want Labanc (if we retain a little salary to make it more appealing). Dahlen is expendable. Balcers has value as a cheap 3rd line winger. I'm not sure how much I like Barbanov but they just re-signed him. If they obtain Pastrnak, does this mean they keep Burns this year and just buy out Vlasic? [I would prefer they trade Burns alone or as some sort of package soon enough & retain enough salary to get another 2nd round or late 1st round pick for 2023's deep draft.] Then do they ship out Simek's contract? Do they just take a chance on Bordeleau at 3c and then obtain one via trade if he isn't ready for that role?
If SJ wants to compete next year, I'm more in the camp of getting two quality top 6 guys (like Perron, Palat Trochek or equivalent 2-way guys) for the same cap hit as an elite guy. I know Pastrnak is only 6.67mil next year, but the 3 years after that when Meier's and Pastrnak's new deals would kick in with hardly any cap increase is the challenge. Cap isn't projected to go up much until 2025-26 after the $1 billion debt held by the players will be repaid to owners. If Burns doesn't get traded sometime next year, he will the following year so that will help. In 2024-25 Martin Jones buyout cost will reduce by approx. $1.3 mil/yr.

Also would like to point out that the Sharks had a chance to draft him in 2014 and passed and instead traded and down to take Nikolai Goldobin (the stick thief). Trading away multiple 1st round picks and prospects for him now doesn't seem worth it. Should of drafted better, not sure how you pick Goldobin over Pastrnak even as prospects it was easy to see Pastrnak was a better fit and prospect
