Okay folks, I'm not from Canada but watched the Leafs growing up on HNIC so I do cheer them on.
As a former player who has a bad head injury history (Five concussions/TBIs/two facial reconstructions & more) only one concussion from hockey, I can tell you that these injuries are unpredictable and healing is not linear, like a broken arm for example. You can be fine and then boom, you get brain fog, nausea, major fatigue, light and sound sensitivity, and more. It comes on fast and leaves slowly.
It is a day to day struggle. If that is what Matthews is suffering with, then I understand his frustration because there is nothing you can do but rest and take time away from external stimuli. There are times I had to stay in my room, completely dark, for a day or two in a row.
I'm ten years past my last TBI and the damage is permanent. I hope he doesn't rush back. Godspeed.

Matthews reminds me alot of MacGregor. He has already made his millions in the sport. Why should be bother putting in the effort? He has already made his living, and can coast his way through. He is simply not hungry.
