Ekblad contributed to these series wins just as much as everyone and deserves respect. We didn't give up a single goal in games 2, 3 and 4 while Ekblad was on the ice. You can't beat teams like Tampa and Boston with a bad top pairing dman
He was also very good during the regular season and was a major contributing factor to our elite defense. The 2nd image was taken from another post on here several days ago showing that Ekblad was top 95% in x line offense and top 93% in x line defense which is significantly better combined than any of our other starting defensemen

All this image tells me is that Gustav played 28 more games than Ekblad while putting up god tier metrics while at the same time making up for his penalties.

Every top D man (save for almighty Forsling) gets cooked for a game or two in the playoffs because they get matched up against the best of the best. Look at McAvoy: we made him look like dog shit for much of the series and I don’t know how you could leave him out of your top 10 or even top 5.
Ekblad definitely had an atrocious game 1 but he stepped up big in game 2-4 and then had to face a desperate Bruins top squad in games 5-6. Every single team goes through a cycle of hating on a top pairing D man in the playoffs and it’s partially due to the nature of the position and matchups they are dealt. If Ekblad were playing third pairing matchups he’d likely look a lot better and conversely guys like Kulkov and OEL would be near guaranteed to look a lot worse on the top pairing than Ek

This only tells me that Forsling has been real busy carrying Ekblad around. Ekblad moving around like it’s public skate he needs to wake up he is better than what we’ve been seeing.
I want to agree with you, but he just doesn’t pass the eye test. He doesn’t make smart passes in the d zone, he’s slow, he has lost any offensive prowess he once had. There are certainly more dynamic defenseman to be had for less money.
I appreciate Ekblad and everything he’s given to this organization. It’s a bummer injuries and concussions probably stopped him from his most potential. I will appreciate him a lot more when we’re not paying that contract.

We run a very similar style to the bruins it’s why we struggle with them imo vs the more technical eastern teams like Toronto/Tampa we don’t have as many issues with, there was one metric I thought was telling for close these teams were they were 5th in pk to our 6th in pp and I forget what it was near the start but it was near reverse for our pk vs their pp like we had 3rd pk and they were fourth for pp type of shit
We beat the bruins in a skills matchup seeing as despite us looking like we were playing drunk for a bit there we never once got steam rolled minus the bad game 1 they just edge us out for physicality and having their officer Swayman in net helps a fuck ton too lol 😂
I always wanted him to be good ever since we drafted him. Whenever he touches the puck I clench my ass cheeks. You know he’s turning it over in front of the net or doing something stupid. It feels like he has no confidence with the puck and it’s going to just roll off his stick.
I don’t hate the guy but he just scares me
Ekblad has been consistently great for the Panthers.
He plays against the best forwards in the world and when you get burnt by the best in the world it looks bad.

I still think he’s playing hurt right now. He was very good in the Tampa series but yesterday he looked like he was laboring out there. Don’t know if it was from a blocked shot or a hit or something, but he’s having a tough go of it out there right now. Hopefully whatever is bothering him isn’t major. If he plays like he did in the Tampa series against New York, we’ll be in good shape.

This is straight up mental illness. I was considering making the opposite post obliterating him, but we won the series despite him, so i tempered myself. He is as bad at what he does as forsling is good. He cant skate, pass, stickhandle, shoot, hit, win a board battle, stay on his feet, or not take a penalty at a crucial moment. He’s the worst player on the team by a huge margin 2 years running. It takes a fanatic of the highest order to offer him any praise. Its truly psychotic. Like diagnosably so. Get this checked. Its scary and repulsive.

He’s so bad, it’s hard to watch him play. It’s like he skates around and just hangs out. We were debating last game if he is being paid to throw the game.

I noticed something that stood out to me on the Panther’s minimovie of game 6. Ekblad’s face looked pained when Goose got the game puck. Not because he was jealous, he just looked bummed out/disappointed in himself. Like he wants it, but his own play and maybe his body are failing him/letting him down. Oddly enough, this afternoon I had the positive preminition or intuition that he would get GWG to win the Cup. And I don’t really care about him as a player. Just thought I would add my ramble since I had that “vision” this afternoon. lol eta Feel free to throw me in a padded room.
