I’d take Woodcroft over Keefe but the guy I really wouldn’t mind is Gallant.
Ace, agreed fully about the "article." This is in no way meant to disparage fan websites, but it's what happens when fans write, pretending to be professionals who know the team. I used to have AATJ bookmarked but don't anymore because there are too many times you get knee-jerk reactions. Keep doing what you do — and never hesitate to call out what you see as BS.
As for Parise, I can never forget what he did. He was the captain of a team that went to the Final, and he left a few weeks later. After saying he wanted to stay. I don't care about the family stuff, the geography nonsense — show some damn loyalty like Kenny Daneyko. I still feel the same about Bruce Driver for leaving almost as much as Parise. Going to the Garden and not being there to get a ring? Same goes for Holik. And Gomez (as good as your interview was with him.) And I am sure a few others I am not recalling.
Watching the playoffs, the Devils definitely need more grit to make a serious run.

Ace, Parise coming back for a year at league minimum, would go a long way to easing some of the bitterness many felt at his sneaking away in the middle of the night, so many years ago. Brind'Amour and Berube are gone….this doesn't bode well for an important off-season, it seems Fitz can't make up his mind and players and coaches slip through our fingers.

The good news about the MacDermid signing is that it is definitely NOT an analytics signing. LOL. Glad someone is looking at the games and making decisions.
I agree, Ace. That AAtJ article was total garbage. John can be pretty insufferable with some of his takes, in general. He's anti-fighting, which is fine, but he doesn't allow for perspectives other than his own to be voiced, even in the comments. I only go there for 'news from around the league' recaps and prospect update posts these days.

That article really does sound like a psyop from a covert Rangers fan cause he's mad we got a Rempe response. MacDermid isn't the end all be all to toughness, but he's certainly a step in the right direction, and deserves more than a cashier's salary that some people think he deserves.
Maybe being a young fan and hearing this story I cant hate on Parise. Idk if I'd want him on the bottom six but I definitely wish him a happy retirement
Agree with you on the signing. Let me ask you this, do you think we will ever have to trade one of our top 4 forwards for another with size? (Hughes, Bratt, Meier, or hischer)
With a team as pitifully soft as the Devils are, I can’t for the life of me understand how anyone would be upset about MacDermid being brought back. Hockey is not all about speed and skill. Watch the playoffs and it becomes painfully obvious how much this roster, as currently constructed, cannot compete in a playoff style environment. I’m glad he’s back and he seems to be a good dude as well.

Dude we are on the EXACT same page about this article. I always argue with this AATJ writer. I gave it write back at John Fischer. I even posted the youtube link regarding the comments from Brad Marchant when he said that in the playoffs, some guys are trying to hurt all the good players on the other team to win. I LOVED you calling him out! All my coaches are gone. Unless Fitzy could possibly pull a rabbit out of a hat, then I'm not sure who we should get as a coach.

I didn’t get too upset over Zach leaving for the Wild. He wanted to play with his friend and in his home state near his family. Can’t blame the guy if he had the opportunity of a lifetime.

Speed is easily countered by positioning! Jacque Lemaire used it to beat teams who came in with speed that we couldn’t match… so analytics isn’t helping us by choosing fast, skilled players who by the way haven’t wine anything….
2023 was an outlier season that we couldn’t come close to the next year or had the prior 9!

The only reason Rempe knocked out Seigenthalyer is because he KNEW MacDermid was going to kick his ass…so he took a cheap shot he know would get him ejected. You are right, mental state is a huge factor. My fiancé even said "this team is VERY easily mind fucked." Whoever wrote this article is a complete moron, and has never played a sport in their life. I played roller hockey as an adolescent. I also developed late….so I was short. There were a couple games where I got pummeled. It was demoralizing…and it can be contagious. The coach saw this, and paired me up with someone bigger. I definitely felt safer, thats for sure. lol I agree though, we do need more gritty players #BringBradytoNJ

Looking at the comment section, can’t believe THAT many people hate Parise- didn’t get the job done in 2012, but Kovalchuk bailing was the reason for those awful years & I think at best 2013-19 we are ‘Minnesota good’ if he stays (meaning 1 or 2 rounds & done).. nothing but love for Parise, would love him back at a league minimum
