All I’m gonna say is no game is one in the first period 60 minutes of hockey the canes played there asses off but had nothing left after 21/2 games of desperation and it showed
I watched this game with friends in a Raleigh pub. Raleigh fans were super upset that Canes let this one slip away. They’d convinced themselves that a reverse sweep was all but inevitable. I’m more realistic and just like to see a good game, and that it was. Could’ve gone either way. Canes need better goaltending next season and maybe Kochetkov is it, but I have doubts.

What a wild game. Really thought this was destined for the Canes when Martinook saved the goal. They seemed to run out of gas and Rangers turned up the heat. It was such a different game he last 15 minutes of the game. That was a legendary game for Kreider. Just seemed destined to score those goals. Canes gave it all but they just didn’t execute.

Really hoping for another cup for the Rangers i was at the 94 parade & its still the biggest ive ever seen in the city & one of my fondest memories.

I watched the Rangers game until 6 minutes into the 3rd period when I was disgusted and said, "I'm done watching this game'. Krieder scored less than a minute later.
I stayed away, I said, 'we scored, Im staying away". WE SCORE AGAIN. I wanted to go back and watch but we just scored two goals, so I commit and go on twitter. KREIDER GETS THE NATURAL HATTY.
It was really some Always Sunny shit. Everyone knows everything a fan does impacts the game. I stayed away so we could close it out. EPIC. EPIC. EPIC. Kreider is my horse too.
The rangers obviously deserved the win here. They were the (slightly) better team over 7 games, far better on special teams, and I'm not trying to diminish that, but the NHL has a major issue with officiating that's going to hold it back from being on par with other major sports. The refs can't swallow their whistles all night, miss a delay of game penalty, and then call a make up call on a softie that's embellished and they haven't been calling all night. You can say, well, the canes gotta kill it off, they had their chances too, lost the special teams battle, missed calls on both sides, etc. That's all true. But when two teams are this close, pretty much every game could have gone either way, and it's really a game of inches, it can absolutely be the difference maker–and that was the theme of the series. Current officiating in the NHL is far too subjective, and they get it wrong too often for the league to have mainstream appeal (Canada doesn't count 😝). Not saying I have a solution, maybe some of the additional video reviews will help, but it's currently fucked and not worth investing much time and money in a season.
It's simple the Rangers have better goaltending… what's it now 547 games Igor hasn't given up more than 3 in a playoff game?

I'm new to hockey, and while my Canes didn't force a game 7, this was still a fun, harrowing and entertaining series. I look forward to seeing how they change things up in Raleigh for next season. Also, Go Canucks!
Freddie please be at least an average goalie in the playoffs challenge failed. I love Freddie and he has been a great goalie in the regular season when healthy. But man the save percentage just wasn't good enough. Too many easy goals given up in just about every game of the playoffs (including the Islanders series). So frustrating when you have the feeling the guy on the bench could have given you a better chance.
It's so rare in hockey that one guy can completely carry his team in moments like this. It happens in other sports, but not hockey. The NYR were dead and had no life at all going into the third and this beautiful man said "We ain't losin this one" and proceeded to dunk all over the Canes. This one will be talked about for generations in NY.
Was really hoping Carolina would force game 7 but the Rangers wanted it more.

Carolina wear themselves out in third periods by playing the relentless puck pursuit game they employ. And their goaltender is middle-of-the-road at best. I thought Brind'Amour should have played the Russian kid after the OT loss in Game Three.

Andersen letting in that horrible 2nd goal was such a massive momentum swing, rangers absolutely dominated from that point on.
After the first 2 periods I thought the Rangers were going to let me down yet again. Then my favorite player Christopher James Kreider saved the day with his hat trick.
And we don’t have to listen to the annoying Carolina horn anymore
This was my first year watching hockey (or any sport for that matter) and I'm so sad about this 🙁 It felt at times like if I just loved the Canes strongly enough, they were sure to win. Being a sports fan is hard because everyone loves their team so much, but at the end of the day there is only one cup to go around.

canes looked like they lost confidence in andersen after that first kreider goal and started to play like the rangers did in game 5
my dad is always quick to panic when things start looking bad for the rangers (he's 70 and he wants just one more cup before he dies; you know the situation). he just thinks like a lifelong rangers fan – can you really blame him? i, on the other hand, was telling him that i think they're in a better position now that the massive pressure of the 7 game streak was well behind them. admittedly, it wasn't looking good for most of the game but much of the success of this current rangers' iteration is built on decisive opportunism. kreider came up big with some decisive opportunism – THRICE. they were never going to have the run of the ice playing against carolina, as they're just too good to allow that. i'm not surprised at all that it had to end this way.
Andersen only allowed less than 3 goals 3 times this entire playoffs

Congrats to the NYR's for being the first to advance. I was hoping for a game 7 that went to 15 OTs, so whoever wins is dead for the next series. But at least this became a series.

Weak pp and net led to an unceremonious ending. Should’ve been a great series and a Carolina W, but instead was more of a bed wetting. Hitting the post and taking an untimely penalty is going to happen, but nothing that couldn’t be overcome, and still found ways to lose. Poor specials, no overtime grit, inability to hold a lead. Pretty unbelievable.
