Another Early Playoff Exit Puts Jets at a Crossroads

The Jets have been a good story at times over the last 12 months, but there have been troubling signs the franchise is in trouble over that time as well.

  1. The only reason I watched this video is because he's wearing the uniform the Jets should be wearing full time.
If he wore their regular uni's, I was deleting this video off my feed. 😆

  2. If you are the Jets, you have to lower season ticket prices. The economy in Winnipeg has been f*cked since Covid, have to lower prices, and thats on the owner,

  3. Morrissey needs some help. He’s one of the 10 best defenceman in the league, and on many nights he looks top 5. However it’s a major drop off after that on the Jets blue line.

I like the look of all the youth they have coming up front. I realize sheiffele is coming off signing a recent long term extension, but if you’re really looking to change the feel in the locker room, and create cap space, then he’s the guy you gotta move.

I also agree on Ehlers. He’s had flashes of short term brilliance over the course of his career, but the reality hasn’t really lived up to the hype for the most part. I think a change of scenery could be beneficial for both parties there. If you can move those two guys out, and bring a couple pieces back to shore up that D, and maybe a couple picks in return, it would be a smart move.

Id like to see Winnipeg ice a younger team next year. A group that’s built around Connor, Hallebuyk and Morrissey. Maybe some real hope for the future, instead of continued mediocrity can get the fans excited again. Something just feels stale there. An injection of youth, and some different leaders in that room will be a long term benefit in my opinion.

Look at what Dallas is doing right now. They’re rolling with 3, or 4 really young players, who are contributing for them nicely in the playoffs. All of whom they drafted well down the board, and, or got on the cheap from other teams that gave up on them too soon.

You always gotta have a few guys on entry level deals contributing, if you hope to stay competitive in the cap era. That means you need to be able to find gems late in the first, or in the second round consistently. That’s what’s worked well for Dallas; and for a small market team, it’s imperative that the Jets keep drafting well, and playing their young guys.

  4. Really wish they could have the option to use their white jerseys for the home games, it just feels weird to me seeing that nice whiteout and then the jets wearing the color jerseys.

  5. In terms of a new HC, I’m hoping it is someone who does not have ties or previous ties to the organization. Like Scott Arniel. I would like to see Berube come in and shake things up.

  6. Die hard Edmonton Oilers fan here, love my team and city but I have to say the Winnipeg Jets are my 2nd team. They'll rebound back, they are not Toronto, they'll find a way. Love Adam Lowry, love the fans, love the whiteout and I'll always cheer for you when my team is out. Stay strong Winnipeg
    Sincerely an Oilers fan

  7. Wipe the slate clean. Move the Jets to Arizona, grant Atlanta another team and start the cycle all over again. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

  8. I have been a loyal Jets fan since 1972. The year of the million dollar Golden Jet. This past season was the best Jets team I have seen, either version 1.0 or 2.0. I look forward to the improvements Cheveldayoff makes over this summer and look forward to the next season, with an even better roster. Thankyou for your service Mr. Bowness both version 1.0 and 2.0. Once a Jet, always a Jet.

  9. 1. Gratuitous Simpsons quote: “THAT’S IT! BACK TO WINNIPEG!”

    2. Blame the playoff format on why they didn’t go far. They drew C3)CO in Round 1. Had the format been this

    8 teams/confrence
Division champs & rest are wild cards
Top Wild Card can be seeded 2
Worst Division Champ can be seeded 4
    Reseed after each round
Home ice in Finals is most points

    The playoffs would be
    EAST
    1)NYR-8)WSH
    4)BOS-5)TOR

    2)CAR-7)NYI
    3)FL-6)TB

    WEST
    1)DAL-8)LV
    4)CO-5)EDM

    2)WPG-7)LA
    3)VAN-6)NSH

  10. Trading for rental players at the deadline there is like a 90% chance you are throwing away all you trade. The jets wasted a 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick for nothing. Teams that constantly make the playoffs and do rental player trades and lose this can be the very reason they do not win the cup.

Sure if you win the cup you look smart but the odds are you will not.

  11. Of the Canadian team in the playoffs, the Jets were my last pick for going to the second round. Toronto next. Was expecting Canucks and Oilers to meet in the second or third round.
Toronto and Winnipeg just seem to fade every year when the playoffs start.

  12. Kevin Cheveldayoff has been there for a long time and still hasn't been able to fix the Jets problem so maybe it's time to try a new GM>

  13. You did not mention or talk about Gabe Vilardi, he could be a difference maker, but he needs to be consistently healthy

  14. Have been at both arenas in Wpg. Parking downtown and traffic does not compare with the old arena. This and the high ticket prices etc are a real turnoff for a lot of us. Particularly when we compare to other venues in the NHL.

  15. I do think the boys got pissed when we lost the 35 game 3 or less goal streak. And the worst thing is it was a game we shouldn’t of pulled the goalie when the score was 3-1 that was a brutal call by bowness to pull and I do think that was the turning point with the jets. Nonetheless still a great season and I can see us losing to the cup champions for another year running

  16. A simple plan for Winnipeg.Move your smaller players.A full size forward should be 6' to 6'4" and 210 plus a 6'4" player should be 220.Move Ehlers,Stanley and a nother left shot d guy.Play big hockey,like St.Louis did,look to Berube to coach.

  17. From a non fan, despite this weak playoff showing there is a lot to be optimistic about. That Dubois trade was franchise revitalizing, certainly a playoff team at least next year or two.

  18. Jets’ problem is that they lack star players who can carry the game… They have just one, Helly in the net… Connor is a good goal scorer, but he needs supporting cast. Scheifele is a good second line center at best… Morrissey is very good D, but he isn’t like Makar who can carry the team if needed… Their first line is probably second line at best for most of the PO teams (apart from Boston I guess)… they are just an average player team with a all-stars goalie…

I watched all their PO games, and they just couldn’t keep up with the Colorado’s talent… 🤷🏻‍♂️

What they need to do? Well, they need to attract star players… get 1st line center, and a passer to play with Connor. Get a steady def-man. They will probably need to take a shot on some players who don’t perform well and try to turn their careers around… 🤷🏻‍♂️

  19. Love the Jets but they have never been the same since Dustin Byfuglien did not return. They are not intimidating and they dont have heart.

  20. They need to bring down the price of drinks in the arena and more people will go. I don’t want to pay $100 for nose bleed seats then have to pay $15 for a single beer, it’s just money that I can’t fit into my budget right now

  21. I'm with you until the last bit: I think the same thing happening in back to back playoffs reflects on the coach. I can't find the quote from after this year's playoffs, but he admitted not changing how his team played over the course of the series, and it showed in how his teams played. Once their opponent figured them out, they lost four straight in back to back years. You can win in the regular season with good players, but you need good coaching to win in the playoffs. I think was a fine coach, but their post-season failures are at least partially at Bowness's feet. It'll be interesting to see what a new coach can do because as you said, there's talent there.

  22. Since Dustin Byfuglien left, nearly all of the Jets' playoff appearances have resulted in quick exits.

  23. Jets choke every year in playoffs and it is getting old.
Defense is too small and the team plays too soft for playoffs.
Schmidt and pionk need to go.
Our gm won't make moves unless he is forced.
    Fans are pissed.

  24. Kings and Jets are a wash between last year's trade. The only positive with the Jets is the fact that they got rid of PLD, and for the life of me, why would Blake and Luc sign him to an extension. As a Kings fan, it didn't resolve issues the year before, especially dealing head-on against the Oilers. It's becoming comical. 😅

  25. The problem with the Jets was identified by Rick Bowness last year. Collectively the Jets are as soft as baby poo. They get physically pushed around by any team that decides they want to. The team has a bunch of guys who like to win and not a single soul who hates to lose. No spirit, no heart…no push back, year after year.
