Dont kill me…I would give it one more try. I would certainly try to trade Marner. You may have to wait till Tavares come off the books. Matthews and Nylander are in their primes, so you cannot demo this team and tank for future draft picks. They pushed the Bruins to game 7 overtime and a stupid play by Sammy and Marner ended the series.
I know they don’t want hear this but the Leafs need to start over. A coach might help, but I think there is too much “set in their ways” with this team. The fact that they might ask them to leave would build a lot of animosity. You better be prepared to buy them out.
Once new coach in place I think the only possible "core 4" move they can make is to have John Tavares come in for a discussion, not to trade him but to discuss a few things politely and talk about him on third line and mybe the C being given to Matthews
They reflect on the garbage contracts that they offered them.
Ofc not, they try and force them out, so they can give equally garbage contracts to other players, and then be in the same boat in a few years from now. This is the Leafs we're talking about here.
