I like what treliving is saying in this presser. Shanahan and pelley are fucking useless

Honestly I’m glad he said this and worded it the way he did.

A lot of people on this sub are so quick to say “we got goalied again!” over and over again. No one ever seems to stop and think that if it’s such a repeated occurrence, maybe it’s actually the Leafs doing it to themselves.

Limp PP certainly doesn’t help. Having a defenseman with a decent point shot wouldn’t hurt either

Need more offensive push from the back end.

Goalies know they’re in the spotlight when they play against the Leafs. More media attention than usual and they step their game up. Some might have grown up as fans or maybe they hated the Leafs in their youth, some might have fam in the area and they try harder to impress. Either way goalies tend to bring their “A” game when they play the Leafs, especially in Toronto.

Tre at least giving some honest answers

JFC this sub always going on about getting “goalied” in the playoffs but I just watched Florida light the fucking lamp 6 times in one game against Boston.

Panthers scored the same amount of goals against the Bruins in a single game as we did in the **FINAL FOUR GAMES OF THE PLAYOFFS – all elimination**

Posted a while back about their untapped xG mountain

The leafs got “goalie’d” but fuckin Korpisalo. There’s a common denominator here and it’s sure as shit not the goalies

  9. tm_leafer

We’ve known this for YEARS. Sheldon was saying it during the COVID season – those are regular season goals, not playoff goal

  10. LtColumbo93

Treliving is gonna build a roster that does basically what we just did over and over again.

Grind grind grind grind grind be tough to play against be mean lock it down on defense and lose 2-1.

I think it’s because in the regular season other teams aren’t changing their game for every team they play, but when you really focus in on a playoff series vs. the leafs – all our offense comes from a few players, making it easier to focus on shutting them down.

We need more threats from the D group to keep other teams playing a more balanced game that the core 4 can exploit like they do in the reg season.

  12. That would actually be an interesting graph. The number of times the opposing team’s goalie was the first star of the game.

The NHL tracks the 3 stars in the game sheet, but I don’t think its part of their stats. We’d have to scrape the data.

The curse of having a team of snipers who like to have the puck on their stick for a bit and pick a corner. Once you hit a goalie that can reliably SAVE THE PUCK (funny how those tend to be the ones on playoff teams), your chance of scoring goes waaayyy down.

And conversly, teams that don’t have high end shooters have to learn to score via misdirection and traffic, and that stuff doesn’t suddenly not work in the playoffs when you get higher tier goalies.

Vasy, Price, Rask are going to be Hall of Famers

The leafs played against really good goalies

  15. power_of_funk

    Exactly.

Why do the $44M boys fail to do the one thing they’re paid to do when it counts?

  16. qwertytrewq00

Made Swayman look like the second coming of Martin Brodeur.

  17. clapperssailing

Another way of saying we pepper goalies with alot of unthreating shots. If thats not a shadow shanahans playing legacy I don’t know what is.

  18. JohnYCanuckEsq

I’ve been saying this for so long. With as much raw talent this team has, they sure have a hard time beating middling goalies at times.

  19. Vagard88

Playoffs are about screens and rebounds. We don’t excel at that

  20. danielaparker

Brendan Shanahan’s position appears to be weakened. It’s Brad Treliving’s team now, and I can’t see anyone stopping him from remaking the team as he sees fit. It’ll be interesting to see what he does. I’m assuming the number of water bottles in front of the three participants signals their relative importance 🙂

  21. HaroldLither

So would me and my buddies if we played against them.

You know who can score on them? Elite NHL players

This is the NHL, all the playoff goalies will be good.

  22. Falconflyer75

So basically every goalie thinks he’s a member of the buffalo sabers when facing the leafs in playoffs

Aka usually sucks but unlocks an extra gear in this situation
