I think they do feel intimidated by Vancouver for some reason. The way they lose is they stop playing open style when they go into their so called shell Vancouver just feasts on their goaltending and defense.
Bryan Hayes, starting a bit over 1:00 into the That's Hockey episode, claimed Stuart Skinner had needed to be better in that opening game of the Oilers-Canucks series. There's no doubt Skinner needed to be better given how many ugly goals he allowed (4) but also that defensive responsibility for the Oilers wasn't there because they had thrown it under the bus.
The moral of the story here is that it's a team game of 20 dressed players and several team personnel for each side, and the slightly better of the two team efforts came out on top last night. I don't think Rick gets enough credit for the way he handled matchups all game long and utilized his guys in just the right way to keep McDavid shotless for the first time ever in the playoffs. McD may have an assist, but to keep him down to zero shots on net is a major achievement in any one game.
If you look at the JT Miller vs McDavid matchup over the past 3 seasons, with 70+ minutes of 5v5 ice time before last night's game, Canucks have outscored the Oilers 6-3. JT has been "winning" that matchup for years.
See the problem is the expectations are entirely on mcdavid and Hyman. They have to work twice as hard for their blue line and 2nd, 3rd, 4th lines
They don’t acknowledge the fact that the Canucks plays were all made by their 3rd and 4th + Blue line. Canucks line one is designed to cancel out mcdavid rush strategies. No one talks about this and it’s absurdly bias.
Uhm… oilers goals were pretty garbage .. except the first one. So let’s give credit where it’s due. Canucks out shot, out played and out time on attack against the oilers. That’s bound for a win. When Canucks kick oilers out, I’ll be happy
I don't think the Oilers or the Canucks played good. Vancouver got lucky, especially on goal #5, but Skinner gave them a freebee. Oilers coach is to blame. Should have never let the Oilers sit on the lead. At this level, teams are too good to sit on a lead. Oilers need to use their strength. Full offense for 60 min. McDavid needs to wake up. I haven't seen much of Vancouver this year, but I was not impressed by anything they did in game 1. Oilers need a big bounce back in game 2, or its over for them. I was impressed by the Vancouver fans, crazy Canadians that make hockey great to watch. If Oilers lose I will be cheering for Vancouver. Gotta get to know the Canucks a little more.
i agree with the comments.. everywhere I listen or read about game analysis.. especially this year.. it's never about how good the Canucks did and always about how poor the other team played… we're up 1-0 in round 2 in the playoffs and you would think the Nucks would get their respect by now
THE MAIN PROBLEM FOR THE OILERS IS THAT DRAISAITL IS DEALING WITH BACK ISSUES AND EDMONTON IS DOING THEIR BEST TO HIDE IT. IF HE ISN'T HEALTHY EDMONTON HAS NO CHANCE.

Oilers owned the nucks until Drai went to the locker room. Then it all fell apart for them. They need to do better.

The lack of respect to the Canucks is astounding. Be humble.
The Canucks d are good, Oilers had zero shots on goal in the third into the dying seconds..
No shots on goal by McDavid.
Canucks are favoured by matchups with Miller, Pettersson and Lindholm.
Just say THE CANUCKS PLAYED GOOD. Stop disrespecting this phenomenal Canucks effort. TSN is such a dogshit network.
How much is this nonsense commentary driven by the motivation to manipulate gamblers? I wouldn’t put it past them.
Oilers 😂 fukn wack city
TSN has lost all credibility. They love Edmonton.
Fck the games the military is spraying poison all across the alberta skyline all day Thursday for a week so far why can't Daniel stop this immediately
F-ing Toronto media. Never give the Canucks credit.
Skinner is horriable. Jack campbell? Lol. Oilers havent had a good goalie since bill ranford lol.

Oilers will not beat the canucks this year…… 0 in 5 …. haaaaaa hahaha ha ha ha !!!!
“McDavid” Who?? .
The Oilers are the leafs of the west. If mcdavid is shut down, theyre done.

It's easy to defend McDavid with two players when he is playing with a fourth-liner

Canucks need to forget game 1 asap and focus on game 2. The oilers have some incredible players.

All the focus on "McDavid didn't show up" and 0 attention to Canucks defensive systems to shut him down.
Does Biron ever not yell at the camera?
McDavid skates hard with the puck but floats around defensively doesn't play a 200' game perfect example was on the Miller goal.
Canucks are just shutting down McDavid
give the canucks credit remember no demko
😮
You hacks are making it pretty obvious what horse you're backing.
Biron is getting dumber and dumber.
my god tsn.
do better.
