You're over analyzing man.
This is going to sound weird but i think Dylan Cozens issue is mental. He lacks confidence. He has yet to reach a mental age where he feels like he is a man/adult.
You can see it in how he speaks with the media. There’s a timidness in how he speaks.
He sounds like a boy with imposter syndrome. While he wants to be a gritty leader he doesn’t yet believe it himself deep down at the NHL level.
Which is fine because he is still young at 23 and I think he will simply grow out of it in the next fews years as he matures.
I also think a coach like Lindy Ruff can accelerate that process.
Once he gets over the hump I still think he’ll be one of the best 2 way centers in the league.
And seeing a sports psychologist might actually do him some good.

Brady Thachuk would never accept a trade to Buffalo. Marquee players have all the leverage. Sabres need to set their sites a couple levels down.
When Cozens was in a fight, and took an extra head shot or 2 as he was hitting the ice and getting an ear full was a turning point for Dylan. Infact, as he made his way down to the locker room, he couldn't even knock down the doly on the way by. Its mental with Dylan, the talent is there
