  1. Derek Boogaard was known for brawling
Literally first image on google is Derek Boogaard putting his fists up with a look in his eyes that says: "OH, SO YOU WANNA SEE JESUS BOY!"

  2. Trevor Gillies was a freaking joke and an embarrassment to the NHL. I’m all for fighting and rough stuff in hockey but this dude went out every shift attempting to injure other players. Honestly he was the biggest punk possibly ever in the entire NHL… he made Jarkko Ruutu, Cooke, Barnaby, and even Avery look like lady Byng winners. And it’s not “old school hockey” so don’t give me that shit. He was a PoS and played 57 more NHL games than he ever deserved!!!

  3. It's interesting to see how matter-of-fact they are when describing this fight. They have no idea how serious the repercussions were.

  4. Not gonna lie, I LOVED watching Boogey throw down! But had we known then what CTE was & it’s impact on athletes – physically and mentally – there is no way I would’ve watched a fight, let alone cheered for one… RIP Boogey…

  5. This is Gillies first NHL game. He had to wait four more seasons to play an NHL game again. Must have been disheartening to get KO'd like that, then sent down for four seasons. That takes a lot of something to keep going, but he eventually made it back.

  6. Gillies was a goon who played ineffective hockey. His NHL "career" of a whopping 57 games and astonishing 3 points would've been better avoided if he had never played NHL at all.

  7. Trevor gillies was & still is a cowardly dirty player. boogaard was not a player I liked but he was good & could stand his own or protect his teammates gillies & matt bailey most of those that played early for the Islanders or old disney own quaks were just dirty playing bullies. Once disney sold the quaks & they became a real nhl team even while still being in last place they became a team & one of my favorites. At least boogaard had still gillies didn't I give him props for admitting he was just a bully though & acknowledging that he had no skill.

  8. On November 6, 2005, Boogaard knocked out the Ducks' enforcer Trevor Gillies with an uppercut to the jaw. Anxiety over having to face Boogaard, even occasionally, and the possibility the younger man might inflict similar injuries on him, led Georges Laraque to retire.
