I live in Thailand & it's quit funny you're scared of the whole country because of these idiots you have heard about. But to give you some perspective, Thai police are not like American or Canadian police, they absolutely would sit him down on the curb & take lots of photos while they assess the situation, this is the way they operate, even pointing at evidence in the photos or at the perpetrator. I doubt they will take kindly to someone faking violence for a video and will probably charge him and fine him for that, if it was staged.
There's nothing to be scared of about Thailand unless you want to come here & do stupid things like this, then yes you're going to have problems in this country & any other country.
