Can All Canadian Fans Rally Around One Canadian Team in the Playoffs?

My answer to that is no because they have never done it before.

  1. Nah. I might be Canadian, but I find the drought beyond hilarious. The fact that people lose sleep over this makes me chuckle

  2. Interesting video. As a lifelong Wings fan, I always pulled for Toronto since we saw them every Saturday night on CBC when Wings weren’t on TV. Except when Det played Tor in playoffs. But overall, with a lot of Canadian ties in my family, I am silently rooting for the Leafs to break their 57-year drought. Should another Canadian team make the finals, I would be pulling for that team because it would be a fun story. Meanwhile, if two US teams square off, I usually favor team which never won (Vancouver) or hasn’t won in decades (like Dallas). This is a fun topic, thanks Shannon!

  3. As an Oilers fan, I could get behind Vancouver, Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa.

My biggest fear is one day suffering through a Flames cup win. I lay awake at night worrying about it.

  4. I think the number of Canadian NHL is dropping because hockey is becoming more popular. I see it as a growth of the sport rather than it being something bad for Canada

  5. I resent the fact that ottawa wasnt mentioned in that dumb boston pizza commercial. Sens went to the cup final in 2007 but everyone seems to have forgotten.

  6. It's a big no for me. In 2011 ( Van / Bos ), I was out east for work and a group of colleagues were going to dinner and watch game 7. Colleagues from Alta, Sask, Man and Ont. Turned out I was the only person in the group who was cheering for Canucks. Some even hag Bruins jerseys on. It was the worst. Guess where we went to eat and watch the game ? Boston Frickin Pizza !

  7. I don't know why Canadian fans take the Stanley Cup going to an American team so personally… Like, Americans don't even care what country the cup is in. They never even think about it. Every team has a majority of Canadian players anyway, so why would it matter?

  8. Hold on, there are a lot of fans who only you're for one team. Unlike some people I see. After their team is gone good hockey and refereeing only please

  9. Thank you so much for saying this. As a Flames fan the amount of times I've been deemed "not a hockey fan" or "pro american" because of my pure hatred of the Oilers, Leafs and Canucks and the fact I would hate if any of them win a cup us absurd… Rivalries aren't born or continued in sports so we can hop bandwagons every year.

  10. As a Sens fan, I'm okay with a Canadian team that has never won before winning the cup. I'd prefer the Sens do it first though. Kind of meh on Oilers or Flames. But Leafs and Canadiens? No sirree. Unh-uh.

  11. As a Flames fan and as a Canadian, I will absolutely not cheer for any Canadian team except for Calgary and Ottawa. Obviously Calgary because it's my hometown and I'm a huge Flames fan, and I've always had a soft spot for Ottawa. But not I will not cheer for any Canadian teams this year or ever. Especially Edmonton and Winnipeg

  12. No one is saying Gary Bettman hates Canada. Thats a straw man arguement. Bettman was mandated to build the game in the US. As a businessman he had to know if he was going to grow the game in the Southern US, he would be competing with Nascar, Football, Baseball, and Basketball. Im convinced that the only way Hockey is even in discussion with these, is if there is a new narrative every year, especially in places like Tampa, Vegas, Atlanta, Carolina, etc. These teams must win to keep relevant and if they dont, they either fail or are taken care of financially by the relevant teams, even the Canadian franchises. So since 93, no Canadian team has lifted the Cup, but that doesnt matter in Canada, like it does in the US, cause we love the sport, its a part of us, and we keep filling the seats, and we will pay the bills no matter what.
