Matthews had a monster game. 8 registered shots but double that in attempts, hitting, blocking, winning majority of faceoffs, and not to mention the two assists and this clutch goal. Perfect time for him to heat up.
It is illegal in the NHL to accept a pass in a closed hand and skate with it to gain competitive advantage over the opposing team. That is a penalty. Also shouldve been offsides considering he was in the zone before he put the puck on the ice.
He closed his hand on the puck just saying. As a bruins fan, I thought it was a great play and goal, but he did close his hand on the puck and threw it forward. In the rulebook that would be a penalty. i would've been happy if they blew the play dead. I think a penalty is stupid for that rule. Mathews did play a great game. Very tough to play against.
I guess from what I've heard the rules are on his side here, but it's ridiculous that a player can catch the puck on the blue line, then drop it 10 feet inside the zone and get away with it. Maybe if he wasn't in full stride and he'd just dropped the puck where he caught it I could understand, but being able to skate with it like that before dropping it.
