Good breakdown, I think this is a good deal for both teams. Islanders save $4.1M and we get a potential top line defenseman to pair with Sieder. And looking at the David Savard return we should get a 1st round pick.
Four more years of not making the playoffs is absurd, no thanks. We should be making a push for the playoffs in 2022-23. We do need to get the goalie situation figured out but I believe we have enough talent in the organization if we just let it develop we should be okay after this year's draft.
And why do they keep saying 7 million panic was going to cost us what 2.6 or 2.8 million so we got rid of half of that salary I don't understand. At this point panic is it taxis squad player anyways.
What I like about this trade, is it instantly makes the blue line better. If the Red Wings can't decide who to protect, between Cholowski and Lindstrom, they might as well expose both. It's not like Dennis Cholowski is a core piece that the Wings are rebuilding around, and he's not exactly Jeff Blashill's favorite teammate: dude probably wants to go to Seattle at this point.
Isles fan – You guy's are getting a great pickup. He's not a shutdown defenseman but he's certainly reliable in his own end and makes good decisions with the puck. From time to time he'll make some soft plays on pucks that will make you angry, but he more than makes up for it with his passing and skating ability. I can watch him carry the puck through the neutral zone all day. It's a thing of beauty. He'll be missed on the Island
leddy is going to be the guy that seider is protecting. i think most people have it backwards. seider is going to come in and play real d. the offense will come later. play real d first.
If we keep Bert, Bernier and Stecher. I'll be a happy boy. If we gain Wallstedt and Elias in the draft, I'll be getting drunk and buying beers for everyone. 😁🍻
I think you see how he plays if you get him to sign for2 or 3 years at 3.5 to 4. If not trade at the deadline. Keep stecher trade him at the deadline. Trade Bert at the deadline if he's having a good year you should be able to get a deal like Is mantha trade. We still need a Goalie
This is the year to tank. 2 future hall of famers coming in 2022 draft, and possibly a better one in 23. Trade everything for 1st rounders from possible lottery teams.
I see what you mean how the Leddy trade seems like a classic Ken Holland move. If we didn't originally have 3 2nd round picks before making the trade I would be a little annoyed most likely, but because we had 5 picks in the first 2 rounds I can dig it. I saw a stat (and don't quote me on this, cant remember exactly what the stat was) where Leddy was the 2nd best defenseman in the league this past year in terms of moving the puck into the offensive zone or something like that.. I can dig it. At 30 years old he still should have plenty left in the tank, this will allow us to move the puck better and give our power play and our forwards better chances consistently. Also Leddy will be a good mentor for younger D-men like Seider, Hronek, etc.
I think Yzerman feels good about the prospect pool and the teams direction. Now what he needs is some bona fide NHL players to add credibility that they are competitive and a good destination for some key FA to maintain and speed up playoff legitimacy.

Great stuff guys, I hope we can use Leddy for a mentor for Seider, then maybe dump him for a 2nd at the deadline?

Steve knows what he is doing and I think we should try to let him build his team his way! He has proven himself just look at Tampa

Leddy , Seider pairing!!!! Let’s go
I like the trade
He’s here only for Sider, let’s be real. I think yzerman weighed the development Sider vs maybe getting a player with that pick. Makes sense to me .

Nice work! Yzerman HAD to do something for the left side. More options now than
after the expansion draft.
