I would say it's the defense that let's Carter down, but how is Elliot so solid for them? …. Hart is good enough but I don't see him doing anything there under the pressure of those fans. He would fit perfect in San Jose or Dallas.
Carter Hart is a star. He is going through a low right now.
I think he'll be fine. Last year in the postseason, he was the reason we beat the Canadians – best player on the ice. Even against the Islanders, with the possible exception of Barzal, he was, again, the best player on the ice.
He's having a bit of a down year, and yes, the Flyers have long stretches where they simply can't get the puck out of their own zone.
Flyers defense is pitiful. Constant breakdowns where they look lost. If it's not fixed we aren't going anywhere. It also won't help Hart build confidence if he left hung out to dry every night.
I think Hextall was right about not bringing up Hart yet but I understand why they did it. That season we multiple goalies & it was a mess.
I'm glad you made this one. I'm going to be so sad if Philly ruins this kid. It's always tough to throw a young kid into the fire, especially when the team in front of him is a turnover machine. Any goaltender would struggle in Philly right now because the Flyers are just not playing well.
I like Myers despite his recent playing. I think he needs a veteran defenseman to learn from.

Ever since Matt Murray winning the 2 cups teams have seemed to think that young goalies can be great starters. While there is evidence of this, look how Murray has performed outside of those two runs. You need a great team to sort of carry that young goalie. Goalies are turning into running backs lol.

Hart isn’t the problem, the Flyers need defensive help and time is up for Giroux and Voracheck. People want to fire the coaches but if you don’t have players that can execute then those players need to go, these young players need better leadership.
Ron Hextall was correct in his evaluation for Carter Hart. We need to give him some slack.

Bernie Parent used to say the same thing about Pelly Limburgh and Ron Hextall. Its all relative. You never know how a goaltender is going to mature. Carter may end up in a bitter divorce or develop a horrible nacho addiction eh. Bobby Clarke still thinks goalies don't need helmets, so consider that eh.

Really solid, objective analysis that, for better or worse, I needed to hear as a Flyers fan this year. Its so tough watching a team you thought were taking slow but steady steps forward seemingly regress so much in one season. Last year (until the playoffs) I thought to myself "this team is FINALLY fun to watch again" and then I watched them in the playoffs….and seeing their struggles this year……….and its like I'm back to the dark days of the Hakstol era again……….
I've been a die hard Philly fan all my life. I was so stoked last year when I though that we had finally solved the goaltending issue that has screwed us for decades. Hart's struggles this year are really concerning and I definitely can't see fletcher giving him a high value or long term deal after this season. He looks awful most games. Granted, our defense kinda sucks, but still.
Defense needs to step it up. They can't be getting those chances once hart dials in hes really good.
He is the only player I would trade Gaudreau for.

Thing is it’s not even that carter is playing particularly poorly. Now he’s not looking great, especially glove side, but damn have you seen how the defense leaves him out to dry every single game? Half the goals against him, he’s sliding post to post doing the splits and waving his glove at a 90mph shot going top shelf, which was taken by a player who was completely unmarked for whatever dumbass reason the flyers are now known for. How the hell is any goalie supposed to put up decent numbers or build any level of confidence when facing that onslaught every night? Yes let’s talk about Carter but let’s also talk about the complete lack of any, ironically, HEART, in the teams play on the ice in front of him. Flyers don’t hit anymore, they don’t play tough, they don’t grind down teams with physical play, no teams are scared to come into philly because they know they’re going to leave black and blue no matter what; like who the hell are the flyers anymore? Mascot name should be changed to softy for shits sake. The entire team is a wreck right now, and Carter is just getting the worst of it.
