This was absolutely heartbreaking to watch

It finally happened. After years of instability, bankruptcy, ownership changes, and constant rumours, the Arizona Coyotes played their final game in Arizona. While some will say hockey doesn’t belong in the desert, ironically this game came on the same night the best goal scorer in the world right now chased down 70. Arguably, Arizona native Auston Matthews may never have played hockey if not for “hockey in the Desert”. It’s such a shame this ownership group couldn’t get it right and now great people, fans and a community have to watch on hopelessly as they lose their NHL team. A young team that holds a lot of a promise. The Coyotes absolutely came to play facing off against the Edmonton Oilers. They brought energy and plenty of goals but as a whole, it was just heartbreaking to watch. Salt Lake Sucks chants broke out and as the fans gave their final salut to the fans, there wasn’t a dry eye in the arena. I’m just glad fans got to say their goodbyes. With all that said, enjoy as I cover what was the last NHL game played in Mullet Arena!

  1. Av's fan, here. Sympathy to everyone in the Yote Pack. You are a great fan base and y'all deserve better. Hockey belongs in Phoenix.

  2. My buddy told me that he got playoff tickets in Az for 35 bucks the year they went. The fans can pretend they supported the team, but obviously not enough people did.

  3. Hockey may belong in Arizona, but the organization's management of the team had been just awful. The fans, and supporters of hockey in the state in general, absolutely deserved better.

  4. Carolina fan here, seein the Yotes move away is such an unfortunate thing to happen. Even though the rumors began so few before that we'd loose them, kinda felt like no one wanted to accept the fact we lost another great hockey town.
From Carolina with love, good luck Yotes.

  5. Honestly the teams outcome should of happened 10 years ago, it does suck because I hate to see any NHL fan lose their team, but no arena they always need help they can’t get to keep them there , Batman hates to be wrong so he dragged it out way too long. The Arizona fan should be blaming that guy.

  6. As a person from Atlantic Canada “hockey belongs in the desert” will never resonate with me until we get a team.

  7. no it wasn't. this franchise has been a joke for over a decade. the only thing sad bout this situation is the fact the the nhl didn't do something way sooner.

  8. man im a chicago fan but i always loved the yotes. kills me to see them go i hope they at least keep the name but i doubt it.

  9. i’m a hockey lover !!! and this is so sad and disgusting… they sold the team to a billionaire salt lake mormon… i just can’t understand how low the ligue scored.

this is heartbreaking for all the employees, the local staff and everyone in the Arizona hockey community.

    ❤️

  10. Sad to see this happen to this franchise. There's been so much behind the scenes drama with the Yotes since day one.
As much as it sucks to see this happen….hopefully a new change in scenery can finally create some stability for hockey in "the desert."

  11. No sadness. The Bettman uprooted that team out of Winnipeg for his own vanity. NHL wasted millions propping the team up in Arizona so Bettman could save face.

  12. Man, so tough to see. I don't care what city or sport it is, it absolutely sucks to lose the team you've been watching your whole life. Once again old, rich dudes inflicting more pain on the masses. I hope hockey can return to Phoenix/Arizona, those fans definitely deserve it!
