that’s ok. take a rest and comeback next season as a ppg player.

  2. Very happy about this. The stubborn ironman needs to rest.

  3. votequimby420

good! 82 games is a grind, time to chill

  4. propagandavid

That’s disappointing. It could hurt his chances of making the Olympic team, too.

  5. Capable-Mobile-8260

Thats a little disappointing to hear but totally understandable, he’s the only guy to stay healthy throughout this rebuild! Enjoy your rest Suzuki you earned it.

  6. bordercauley

Completely understandable, but somewhat disappointing considering this might make the difference regarding him being named to the Olympic/Four Nations squad. Would have been nice to see a Habs forward on Team Canada in best-on-best…it’s been a while.

Weirdos in the replies mad at Suzuki ‘’i’vE LoSt rEspECt😡’’ Let the man rest lol

  8. Carbogoat

Rest up, captain. Nobody cares about the World Championship anyway.

  9. davemurrayills

My read on this: he sustained some sort of injury in the OT vs Detroit in the final game. You could kind of see it, I was surprised he took the shootout.

  10. pushaper

he would have been 4th centre on the depth chart at best I imagine assuming the coach was looking for some sort of balance… I would pass too

His heart is 100% in making the Habs better. But this will hurt his outside chance to make team Canada for the Olympics.

  12. RoboticAnatomy

All the more reason to cheer for the Slovaks!

    ^(and Caufield, but not USA)

  13. bigleave

I support his decision. He deserves some rest.

  14. IntentionDeep651

I dont mind if its Slaf vs Caufield or Slaf vs Suzuki in the finals

  15. IcyChard4

Good for him! Just because he has an iron-man streak doesn’t mean he’s obligated to play for team Canada. If they want him on the Olympic roster, then its up them.

Have a good vacation Nick. See you come training camp.

  16. CauzukiTheatre

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I’ve never really cared about the worlds because of the absence of so many top-tier players. Gold at the winter olympics is the best indicator of world dominance.

  17. KathleenElizabethB

Nick deserves to make the choice that’s best for him. He played hard this year so probably needs to rest and recuperate. Hopefully next year’s season will extend into the playoffs!

  18. ValleyBreeze

Kid hasn’t missed a game since juniors. *knock on wood*

    He has earned a rest!!

  19. xen0m0rpheus

Looks like he’s not making the Olympic team. Bummer.

  20. Extreme-Leather7748

He is 100% focused on making the Olympics as he should be. He also hasn’t missed an entire game in his career, I think he’s deserved to rest a bit

  21. MetalFungus420

If that’s his choice there is a reason. All good!!

  22. CreateorWither

I’m glad, he likely played injured again this season. Heal up, get some fresh air, relax and come back ready to go.

  23. JustFred24

I’m confused he said he wanted to a few weeks ago? I hope it’s not because he ended the season with a small injury again…

  24. Open-Measurement2026

Goood for him. He’s been one of the few injury free on a young, rebuilding team. The Captain has done a great job this year. Take the Summer off from hockey and train for next season.

  25. zzzzoooo

This opt-out might affect his selection for the 4-nations tourney.
And not playing in 4-nations tourney might affect the Olympics selection.

  26. Pazzaaaaaa

I might get downvoted but I’m gonna play the devils advocate here:

I’m a little disappointed in Suzuki here. Playing with different players in national tournaments helps with players improvement so much that it’s definitely worth more to play that to rest. Look how much suzuki improved after the all star break. I’m not saying it’s all due to him playing with the other top players in the league but it definitely helped.

And ya you can say he deserves rest, I’m sure he does and all the power to him. But I can still be disappointed in him not taking some time out of his vacation to improve his play even more than he has this year.

He’s an amazing captain/person/player but people are allowed to be disappointed in this. He’s not some god where we have to agree with all his decisions.

  27. The___Colonel

I think he will still make the Olympic team regardless, for the 4C spot. He is exactly the type of guy you want for that position, dangerous offensively but very intelligent defensively.

  28. skradmore

Can’t even imagine what pain and injury Suzy plays through because he never shows it. We’ve seen him get trucked a few times and pop up like it was just another bump. Never misses a game. Enjoy the off season Cap, you earned it

  29. Strong_Reference_762

This means he probably wont be invited to the olympic or four nation squads if its close between him and other guys who chose to represent canada at the worlds
