The over-arching theme was definitely the frustration at falling just short, but the optimism the team has looking froward. Moritz Seider, David Perron and Lucas Raymond all made it clear that they love it here and want to be here. Patrick Kane on the other hand was much more ambiguous about his return. #LGRW

If Kane leaves I won’t be that sad he was a fine player but he lacks the ability to try he’s a offensive guru but with him being 35 I’m not worried he’s only gonna get slower and more lazy with the puck if we are gonna compete going forward I don’t know if he’s part of that

I don’t see Kane coming back. He came to Detroit to prove that he can still compete and that he’s healthy, now he wants to play out his last few seasons on a top Stanley cup competitor. Kane, his agent, and everyone else knows how close to the cap the top teams are, so I doubt his AAV is going to be a top concern for him and his agent – he’s also made plenty of money over his career. I see him going to Carolina, the hurricanes will probably see a lot of roster changes with the amount of UFAs/RFAs this summer, he could slot right in on a cheap contract after they inevitably lose 2-3 guys to free agency.

For Kane, it's gonna come down to term, money and team in a clear playoff picture. Not many contender teams can offer a large sum of money. Detroit is one of those teams that can meet those needs.
I like Kane but he's getting older and he's a lot slower than he was in his prime. Wings SHOULD NOT re-sign him unless he'll sign for about the same amount for no more than 3-4 years, and that's actually pushing it. He can't keep up with these young players on the league and he doesn't play defense either. If I were Kane, I would re-sign for nearly the same amount for 3-4 years, then retire. I can't see any other team signing Kane for much more than he made this season, and I can't see a team signing him for more than a couple of years. Perron wasn't as much of an impulse as Kane was, but unlike Kane, Perron has made it clear that he wants to stay in Detroit and who knows if he can endeavor to be a player/assistant coach as well, so long as his time on the ice is limited, because he, like Kane, can't keep up and skate like these young guys could. I say offer him less than his salary for the next 2-3 years in a limited role, with the possibility to transition to an assistant coach thereafter. I've had my reservations about Seider and his blown assignments, but if he can mature within the next couple of years into a Larry Robinson-type prospect with the likes of an Edvinnson on the other side, these 2 could be huge for the Wings development as defensemen. And what can you say about Raymond. This kid should probably have a more lucrative contract than the captain himself, Larkin. Larkin may be good, but Raymond is looking more like a prodigy, a class you can't put Larkin in.
I like McCarty on Woodward sports…but he's such an yzerman Slappy it make me sick..stop giving him a free pass..ive seen basement dwelling teams turn it around in 2 years to at least make the playoffs

I don’t think we HAVE to sign Kane . Yzerman will not overpay. The process is slow but we’re making real progress every year. It’s a tough conference to make headway in. Buffalo, Ottawa, Montreal, Pittsburgh, Washington, Islanders are all in the same boat.
Keep Perron. He may have lost a step but he's still a beast along the boards, he comes out of almost every scrum with the puck. Kane can go, he's gonna want the kind of money we shouldn't spend on him…
There’s only one question I have related to players at the end of the season. Where was Walman? Was he benched or just still hurt? No one mentioned his status at all over the past week or two. Was it his defensive play? Just wondered why he wasn’t in the lineup after the one game he returned for.
My 2 cents going into next year: Give Ray and Seids “A”s starting next year and let the veterans wearing them now know they are still leaders, but it’s time for them to lead this team into the future. Seider can and should be quarterbacking PP 1. Start using Seider in way more offensive situations and stop killing his offensive productivity as much as he is amazing defensively. Ed is also offensive so let him shine putting him on PP as well. The future looks bright staying positive!
Sigh… wanted Kane to retire here. Kinda hurts if he just used us as a step to get on another cup contender. You guys spent way too much time on segment two.

I don't see Yzerman letting go of Kane. It's been known that Yzerman was looking for veteran players that have playoff experience, and who better than a superstar player that has cup winning experience. I think can will be a key element to this team in the future even in the sense of just helping our young superstars along the way. Yzerman took the risk on him after surgery for a good reason, don't see a player with multiple game winning goals going anywhere.
Perron should be retained. He is valuable to the team for what he brings to the clubhouse and the younger players. Also wants to stay in Detroit. Kane will leave and that is ok. use the money elsewhere. Ray
Kane with so many lazy turn overs as a trade off for hands and finish. I would be happy to flip for a solid 2 way player
Mo and Ray remind me of Nick and Sergie. Lets hope Ray works on his defense.
