Steve, Jesse and Adam discuss the recent updates surrounding the Evander Kane situation. If he is actually gambling on his own team to lose should he be banned from the NHL?

He'd stop gambling fast if he had no money
Who cares
Who cares
As if she has no motive to lie?
Just checked the CBA, it doesn't explicitly ban gambling. The only mention is in the exhibits, it is the second rule on the sample "club rules" document the CBA offers to teams as a sample of what their club rules should be like and what they should cover. No punishment guidelines are included, just says "Gambling on NHL game is prohibited"
this is a dumb question but how could he effect an over under more than a win loss?
his wages are being garnished. thatâs why he doesnât have a signing bonus also
sorry, kept commenting before i finished the episode. so hereâs the deal, i use to underwrite loans.
Evander Kaneâs wages were being garnished. meaning whoever he owed money to; typically a bank or investor, had in the contract he initially signed OR they went to court and were given the right to garnish his income. After a certain number of missed payments or months without payment showing the person is likely not going to pay them back or even begin trying to pay them back, the bank has the legal right to literally obtain a giant portion of his paychecks. normally itâs like 80%. sometimes more until they are paid off. What heâs trying to do is file for Bankruptcy so the income that is being garnished is no longer owed, and hopefully sign a new contract after the Bankruptcy so no income gets taken out. The lender, does NOT get paid back, and a lot of times will either sell off a bulk chunk of debt from a ton of accounts that did similar things or just write it off at the end of the year and make up what they can in reduced taxes. itâs super messy, and the biggest misconception is that you can file bankruptcy and magically not owe money anymore. Not always the case, people can simply chose to not participate in the Bankruptcy and even though they canât actively try and collect the debt, they still have a number of ways they can try and make it up by selling it off to another company or tax write offs.
Kane got himself into a nasty situation financially, a really good lawyer could get him out probably, but until his gambling problem or whatever it is that got him here is fixed he will probably continue making the same mistakes
I'm with Jesse here. Way easier for a single player to throw a game with some defensive "mistakes" than it is for them to singlehandedly win a game
Who drinks outta a mason jar ya jack wad
Hockey absolutely is a team game, however the stars are a key part of how the team perfoms. Teamplay as a whole can win you games in a season, however if your stars don't turn up it can seriously cost you over the course of the season.
Watch the f bombs here boys
If he borrowed money from a 3rd party, claiming bankruptcy isn't going to absolve him of anything. Those are the kinds of people who cut off limbs for non payment.
sub par intelligence.
Hopefully he doesn't breed. The world is already overflowing with stupidity.
Fucc i just watched it and realized it wasnt Pussies podcast. Employer bears responsibility for players addiction? Nhl has to do something? This is a joke! The guys been given many chances and he screwed it all and now the nhl has to come in and wipe a grown mans ass off?
If he declares bankruptcy then signs a multi million dollar contract after the lenders can come after him for fraud
But if they let him come back whatâs stopping the next player from doing the same thing
Adam Wylde's point about addiction at 13:50 is really true.
kane bets against his ouwn team… his team is terrible anyways and no one notices
evander kane is NOT a threat for the sharks…sorry Steve. his offensive skill is mediocre at best.
That deal sucks. He should never void the contract. He should use his contract to secure money from the bank and pay off his debts. Don't declare bankruptcy. His team members are probably jealous of him why they don't like him. Yeah, pick on the Black guy! NHL would tarnish their reputation if they abandon him now. Shame on them.
The NHL helped Theo Fleury with his addiction problems many, many times so why should they throw Evander to the wolves? The NHL will be exposed as racists, helping Fleury, the White guy, many times over his substance abuse but not caring about Evander's gambling problem. Oh yeah, ignore the Black guy. Who had a bigger gambling problem than Michael Jordan but the NBA never abandoned him. They fully supported him.
Adam really needs to do a bit of research about point shaving. Itâs not about âthrowing the gameâ.
One player can affect the spread. Itâs not about winning or losing.
He should be banned for life from the game because this might have implications that go far beyond Kane just being a degenerate gambler.
Itâs possible he owed money and was doing this to repay a debt.
I can't see how a single player can throw a game, in hockey. In the unlikely event of a shootout coming down to the one guy that is crooked needing to score, I guess it could happen. You could argue that he might not have put in 100%, I don't know, I don't see many Shark's games. Heck, I'm a Leaf fan, I've watched games where it looks like the whole team isn't putting in 100%. I'll cut Kane slack on the game throwing accusation. Too bad for him that he seems to be making poor life choices that are ruining his opportunity to create generational wealth for his family. I hope he gets the help he needs.
⊠but what if Kane doesnât want to stop? Then whatever circumstances come his way is his fault.
if you ban him he's gone no spending on his care
Adam, you missed the point about why people were telling Evander the money stack photos were in poor taste. He took and posted those photos during the lock out, while the players were trying to get more from the owners and while arena staff were out of work across the league. It was a bad look and instead of acknowledging that, he just blamed it on racism. The guy has zero accountability. He had a history of showing up late or not dressed properly for practices and team meetings, and it appears that's still happening. He had unpaid food bills all over Winnipeg. He's selfish, self centered, and has zero accountability. According to Evander anything bad that involves him is always everyone else's fault. He has terrible character and that's why his teammates would rather he played somewhere else.
He's a scum bag and his terrible behaviour is finally catching up to him. No sympathy for the guy, and I'm glad Buff tossed him (while wearing a tracksuit) into the shower.
Martin Jones was throwing sharks games the last 3 seasons and he wasnât even betting in them that we know
How can you believe a women who would marry Evandro kane
I will tell you now the thing wrong with Evander is Character flaws
When these guys swear, it's so obvious that this is like "Open the belt and relax outside of work" As if they didn't ask their BRASS if it was okay if they swear.
Mitch Marner probably bets against the Leafs lol đ
A goalie could easily throw a game
Kane just couldn't fit into Winnipeg, same thing with Buffalo. Right from the time he arrived and decided that he was going to keep the number 9 on his jersey inspite of the original Jets retired that number. He did phone Bobby Hull up and asked him for his permission and Mr. Hull had no issue with him wearing it because as far as he was concerned it wasn't the same team that retired it. But it rubbed the fans the wrong way and many felt that it was very disrespectful. He didn't know how much the original team meant to Winnipeg and with the combination of ignorance and arrogance just rubbed Winnipegers the wrong way at the get go. His manager telling local businesses that Kane will put a positive word about their business for the low low price of $500.00 a tweet went over like a lead ballon and further turned fans of of him. He added gas on the fire with his ridiculous photo of him with his bundle of cash in Vegas during the lockout didn't endure him to the fans. His missing a number of games due to a phantom concussion that he claimed happened in the first game of an east coast trip which coincided nicely with the Jets losing streak that eliminated the Jets from the playoffs, with people who lived near him could hear his bass thumping the walls and glass of his windows and his whining about lack of ice time had the fans ready to run him out of town. Winnipeg is like Buffalo and Green Bay in that none are money towns, but we all have a great deal of pride in our teams. We pay a large chunk of our income to attend games and though a cup would be the sweetest thing ever, we just want players who are down to earth and play hard every shift and every game. It's no wonder that he didn't fit in, both in Winnipeg and Buffalo.
I remember in the 80's, I don't recall which goalie but he let in 9 goals before they finally pulled him. It wasn't entirely his fault, he faced almost 60 shots that night and after the 7th goal which went off the stick of Lucien Debluois and both goal posts then his butt, skated out to the ref and said something to him. After the game he was asked what he said to the ref and he responded that he asked if he could do him a solid and use a beach ball for the rest of the game because I don't think that they are going to pull him and he might be able to make a couple of saves!!! The fans gave him a standing ovation before the next game and he made 41 saves for the shutout!!! I understand Leafs fans a whole lot more than any Canadian fans!!! LOL
Where's your money-phone now Kaner? đ€Ł Looks good on ya!!!
As a player myself yes one player can destroy everything. I'm a goalie and this one D used to screen the SHIZ outta me lol and never scored a goal like wth?
As an Islanders fan, I can't help but draw a parallel to Josh Ho-Sang. Dude has great talent and scoring potential but is a major risk to team dynamics and organizational integrity. What a shame.
Betting on your team winning is fine by me. The other way around not tolerable.
