Meruelo has five years to build a new state of the art facility to generate reactivation of the franchise…..

Lololololololol no fucking shot with this guy. Glorified house flipper got himself a $700m profit.

So excited for an NHL team here but sorry to the Arizona fans, getting screwed by owners sucks

  3. CheezySpaniard

American relocation culture in sports is disgusting.

  4. turboroofer

Would be awkward if it got denied after last nights farewell to the fans

  5. ImWicked39

Why let them move if you are just gonna give Arizona a team in the future? I know there’s the arena issue but why not just give Salt Lake City an expansion team?

  6. 13hockeyguy

I predict that The NHL will put a new team in AZ within 5 years.

What’s interesting is that they also announced “Utah is starting as an entire new franchise. The history of the Coyotes will be left behind.”

It’s a yes from the owners for getting a few million each simply for voting yes.

Hopefully the second iteration of the yotes keep the same logo.

All this drama around the team, and I’m just a Kings fan sitting here hoping Shane Doan’s legacy doesn’t get lost in the mix. Hated playing against them when he was at his peak, and would’ve loved him on our team.

Meruelo will never successfully build an arena and resurrect the Coyotes within five years. A different competent and legitimate owner will at some point and Meruelo will get another big payday selling the Coyotes name, identity, colors, uniform design and IP to the new owner.

Anybody else see that “see you June 27th” tweet merulo’s kid made on the official coyotes account? talk about rubbing fucking salt in the wound

  13. RattyDaddyBraddy

Imagine if they were just like “ehh, on second thought, let’s just leave them in AZ”

I am in no way relishing in glee that this franchise is moving, but I am old enough to remember when Hartford, Quebec and Winnipeg all left, there wasn’t a lot of sympathy for the fans there from the cities they left from. It was just ‘Fans should have supported the team more’, ‘not our fault the Canadian dollar sucks’. Kinda sucks being on the other end now, eh?

So I’m seeing the other comments regarding a team team still being in Arizona in the future and also the fact that the Arizona Coyotes franchise is over. Does this mean that Utah is going to be considered an expansion team or what exactly does all of that mean? I just don’t know why they’re going through such great lengths to erase the Coyotes history with this move. Is this what they did with the Thrashers?

  16. DillysRevenge

Does anyone know if the board of governors gets money from the sale? If so how much?

  17. djjd2244

Can we move the Leafs next? They don’t deserve a team anymore after they lose again this year

  18. CrunkestTuna

    Slake city doesn’t approve

    Not Mormon enough

  19. emosn0tdead

Would have been cool to see them move to Portland and have instant rivalry with the Kraken.

  20. socrates1975

The team could be called the Salt lake city saltine’s and as a mascot it could be a guy in a saltine cracker costume 😀

  21. Conservative-Point

The fifth largest market in the US couldn’t support a hockey team or was the ownership that horrendous at running the team?

  22. Numerous_Push_1018

Arizona to another hotbed of hockey. Sad this league keeps screwing over actual places that care about the sport to make a quick buck.

Enjoy the arsenic dust clouds in a few years
