The Penguins are officially eliminated from playoff contention

It’s officially official: The Pittsburgh Penguins will not be in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the second straight season. Patrick and Hunter discuss how the Penguins did not get any help on Tuesday night from the Capitals and Red Wings, spelling the end of their season. They talk about how they got here and how they couldn’t overcome a bad start and middle of the season. Next, they preview tonight’s meaningless game against the Islanders, and finally, it’s the final Warrior Helmet Wednesday of the season!

  1. like you need to get rid of sully miss playoffs back to back like when is last time cup champ coach miss playoff back to back ???

  2. Let me ask the both of you, do you think Sullivan stays? It'll be interesting. The front office paid for it last year (as they should have) do you think the coaching staff pays for it this year? Someone definitely has to pay for wasting another brilliant season by your captain.

Also, since The Pens didn't make it, who are you pulling for in the Stanley Cup Playoffs? Im pulling for the Canucks, I like what Rick Tocchett has done and changed the culture there.

  3. That's funny Hunter I said the exact thing about Jarry/Pickett in the comments on your live crossover with Tip of the Iceberg yesterday.

  4. At least Sid and Geno played 82 games. A vintage Sidney Crosby 82 game season with meaning down to game 81 is going to have to be good enough. If injuries to 87/71 happened the Penguins would suck so bad it's not even funny. At least we had health and 87 to watch.

  5. I can’t express how much I love this show. I found it last year in the summer searching for post season coverage and have not missed an episode since.

Thank you both for all the time you’ve dedicated to this, it’s been a hell of a season. As much as I hate knowing I won’t get to see this team which has FINALLY shown a little life try to make a run, I have to believe that there are still some better days ahead for the core 4. One last chance? Maybe

Either way, I’m here for it

  6. Well, it's over for Pittsburgh. At least when it comes time for the Draft and the 24 25-season, the Pens could get better.

  7. Philly f'ed up by pulling their goalie at the 3 minute mark. On the other hand, they spared the misery, and both Pennsylvania teams aren't going to the Stanley Cup.

  8. Yup it stinks missing the playoffs again but they have no one to blame but themselves. Realistically nothing is going to change next season unless Sullivan is let go, but I just don't think that's gonna happen. Dubas has defended Sullivan at every turn unless Dubas is just flat out lying. Everyone wants Reirden's head because of the power play, but Sullivan is the boss, ultimately the power play's failures are his doing. The whole coaching staff needs replaced honestly.

  9. I don’t care what anyone says I truly believe this team would have had a Florida type run had they got in. Also I get they didn’t help themselves early but I’m not sure what makes the caps or islanders deserve it more if you actually look closely

  10. Really no one reason why we're here today … a lot of "blame" to go around:
    — Dubas' failed offseason due to his flawed approach to only adding grinders to the bottom 6 … somehow making the oldest team in the league even older
    — Sullivan's insistence on playing guys like Harkins, Nieto, Acciari, Carter, Hinostroza, Zahorna (am I missing anyone?) over anyone under 26
    — The coaches and players shared failure on the power play … and throw in 3-on-3 OT while we're here
    — The coaches and players shared failure on showing any sense of urgency through the first … what … 65-70 (?) games
    — The players spending two weeks pouting over the Guentzel trade
    — Ryan Graves … no explanation necessary
    — Jarry's 2nd half of the season crash … March in particular
    — Karlsson's underwhelming play on too many nights
    — Reilly Smith's completely uninspired play on most nights
    — Rakell's disappearance until Bunting showed up
    << end rant >>
The key is what they learn from any or all of this going forward.

  11. Can anyone tell me way other than trying to win would the Flyers pull their goalie during a tied game? That was a savage move to kill the Penguins hopes!! Same thing with the Stupid Montreal team 3 freaking seconds and you can't keep the Puck Out of your net??? Jesus Christ! I blame all loses this season to Trash Can Jarry!!!

  12. CAPS end their season & enter the post season with a goal differential of NEGATIVE THIRTY-SEVEN
& watching their last few games … they honestly don’t stand a chance against the Rangers … they can’t score – & their goaltending can’t beat out NY’s aww awesome tandem

  13. I don’t think there’s anything behind not starting JARRY tonight … I honestly think Sully went to Ned & said “you got us here & got us so far – & you’re gonna finish what you started . it’s your net tonight “

  14. The Caps game back then ended up as pivotal as I said back then.

Bunting should have been a pre-season signing instead of a deadline acquisition.

  15. Sad days. Glad I found your channel this season, though! Looking forward to some offseason stuff! Just curious, who are you cheering for in the playoffs since our boys didn’t get in? Canes and Jake? Or avalanche and Mackinnon? Does McDavid finally get a cup?

  16. I was looking forward to betting on the Penguins against the Rangers…and I am confident they would beat them…then loose in the 2nd round

  17. As bad as this team are & were defensively especially the defenseman; IMO the best ones were Pettersson & St. Ivany, both Jarry & Ned had an overall great season. I don’t care about the advanced stats and offensive numbers when it comes to 58 & 65, they are not very good at playing the position they’re suppose to play.
If it weren’t for the goaltenders and Sid having the season he did this team would’ve easily have been a bottom 10 team. I’m not understanding the narrative that Ned is so much than Jarry, i haven’t seen any evidence or heard any argument to convince me. Ned put up better numbers down the stretch because the team started to actually play more responsible defensively. The one thing I was noticing when Jari was losing games how poor the defense was in front of him there were shots going off of our defenders, bouncing off of them and going into the net or they were just completely screening him standing right in front of him doing absolutely nothing boxing out no other opponent or blocking the shots and he stares them down, so I don’t know if there’s just like a lot tension between he and some of the players. If I were a goaltender, I’d be pretty pissed off and irritated with them too the way they play in front of him.

  18. A woeful end for Pens to play a meaningless game to close out a dismal season. Pens have the whole off season to rebuild the team. Good luck Pens. I hope Jake and the 'Canes can make it through the early rounds and maybe win the Cup too.
