Toronto Maple Leafs’ brutal second period costs game vs. Panthers, off to Boston for Round 1



The Toronto Maple Leafs now know their playoff opponent in the first round with a showdown against the Boston Bruins upcoming. Mike DiStefano and David Morassutti give their thoughts on the switch in the Atlantic Division that now has the Leafs in an Orginal Six matchup. They give their thoughts on the loss to the Panthers and some of the positives they saw early in the game but ultimately the penalty trouble and a brutal second period was their undoing. To end the show, Mike and Dave give their thoughts on the craziness involving the Washington Capitals, Detroit Red Wings and Philadelphia Flyers plus one final chance for Auston Matthew to get to 70 goals against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

    The only hope the Leafs have of beating Boston is that the Bruins are looking past them and get caught napping .

    So tired of hearing it. It all still gets called in the playoffs. I remember not too long ago Justin Holl taking a weak interference call costing the leafs a crucial goal. Bunting getting 3 for a weak shoulder and Kadri pretty much getting the series twice. It’s almost like the refs won’t let the leafs get tough. And I also remember no call, no call, no call what? no call, no call.

    I think with the officiating that the nhl has something against the maple leafs. The refs in this game was as bad if not worse than any other game this year. And Toronto was awful in the second period.

    Leafs are done and done no matter what Morassutti says, as if it matters what Morassutti thinks or says. And DiStefano pretending he didn't know what the second period was about: It's about Leafs hockey = bad!!!!!!

    Mike , you think those will not be penalty’s in playoffs, maybe not for the other team they play but for Toronto all they need to do is touch the other team and they get a penalty.

    I dont think this game matters. If the Leafs would have won this game it wouldnt have been a good or bad sign either way.

    Like you were saying, the Panthers had something to play for. The Leafs only really had the Matthews thing going on, which is a distraction if anything.

    ..chasing 70..Mathews and Marner go minus 6 and expose the goalie…getting Boston improves the possibilities…Florida dominates the Leafs and the Bruins are not as big or bad as in years past..

    Mathews plays gets hurt never plays a nhl game again I could see that happening if it does that that prove the leafs curse

    This late in the season why is Keefe changing so many things around. Nylander on line 3, give me a break. I know they've had some injuries but what an awful coach. I'm cheering for them of course, as I have been since I went to my first game in 1963. But if they lose, even in round 2, I want Keefe to be fired immediately. Enough of this coach and his nonsense. Media in Toronto is way too easy on him. Also, he talks too much but maybe that's what his media lickspittles like about him. He's gotta go..
