If the Leafs thinks Sandin needs to prove himself, then give the guy a one year deal.

I like Sandin, but Liljegren has inched past him. I do think Sandin has more upside than Holl but I suspect the Leafs are not going to pony up whatever he's looking for.

Toronto is extremely weak on defense, and I think Sandin is an upgrade from Muzzin, Liljegren, Giordano and Holl. Not sure what management is thinking here.
toronto has a hard time giving young players time to figure it out for themselves, unless the player performs on a unreasonable high level, one bad game – and the toronto media starts their "trade talks".. "get rid of that players and all of our problems with go away"..
The only time Sandin ever impressed me was when he reverse hit Blake Wheeler. He has been underwhelming in 100% of his games played. I think he deserves 1.1 mill for 3 years. If he wont take it, trade him for a second round pick and a 7th dman.

Liljegren taking $1.4 mil for 2 years when he had a better season than Rasmus, that hurts Sandin's negotiations. He wants at least $2 mil/yr.
If sandin thinks he's worth a dime more than 2 mil per than he can float outta town and try his luck somewhere else like Arizona. Liligren only got like 1.4 and he played more and played better last season. I think they can both be a part of the future, but he's not willy or mitch those guys have been stars since day 1 if I was dubas, I would try but the final offer would be 1.5 or max of 2 mil over 1-3 yrs nothing more. If he don't want it, too bad he's not a top 3 or 4 defense YET.
As a Leafs fan I think Sandin NEEDS to be signed! It’s too far into the Off-Season have him in a big package trade. He’ should be a Leaf for a long time
id give him 2 million right up to last year of RFA status. structure the deal for 4 million a year if qualified at end.

Leafs fan: Sandin seems to be overrated in Leafland. Good, but overrated. I see a high ceiling with the slower developing Liljegren.
If Sandin is as overrated outside of Leafland, and he insists on a better contract than Lily, this is a good time to part ways and get a decent return. Maybe a 1st and a 3rd? Or a top prospect?

Sandin is basically worth what Liljegren got: 1.4 per x 2 years.
Toronto needs to trade Muzzin to clear up cap space and to a lot in Sand in makes sense. But Trading Muzzin and Sand In and bringing in another LHD wouldn't hurt my feelings either. LHD of Sandins calibre are not hard to find.
