  1. I'm grateful for the opportunity to connect with and be inspired by the incredible women in this community. It's a privilege to learn and grow together.🍒

  2. It feels like since the early Shane Down days in the desert it's been nonstop strife / speculation / failure / evictions / ownership changes / ineptitude. Just END THIS SHAM once and for all. I'd prefer Quebec City but Houston / Salt Lake is fine. Just enough of this team.

  3. Great Video, as usual, Mike. I'd like to see Arizona Coyotes be able to do this, but, as we see, there's so much resistance in Arizona that it seems A Pipe Dream of keeping the team. Let me know what you think

  4. Aint happening…. the entire off-season coming up is not enough time for any bidding and processing for this to happen it will be a pipe dream for them to pull this off with so little time

  5. Scottsdale originally rejected an arena many years ago – twice I believe. Hence the Glendale arena mistake. Scottsdale is a very particular community when it comes to development. And no way will they give one penny in taxpayer money to Coyotes.

  6. The land is not “technically” in Scottsdale, it’s wholly in Phoenix. The highway off-ramp already exists. It’s raw land so sewers and roads need to be built by any developer. The opposition is from the rich citizens in North Scottsdale who don’t want the traffic.
That said, doubt this owner ever builds the arena but more likely develops the land for housing in the future; the parcel is going to be developed in the next decade. The best location is much further south. This team will be in Salt Lake by 2025

  7. This team is such an embarrassment to the NHL, just move them to Utah already… nobody in Arizona would miss them

  8. Was curious about some of the specific things the Scottsdale mayor said so I did some digging. The specific development he mentions as being too near the "entertainment venue disguised as a hockey arena" is a large zone that ends right across the road from the proposed arena site. The mayor, David Ortega, worked as an architecht for several decades in Scottsdale. He and the Scottsdale city council have personally approved several large development projects in that zone and near the proposed arena, including a big set of luxury condos that will be right across the road from the arena. Scottsdale politics seems to be very anti-development (literally every news article I found about specific developments referenced this one way or another, usually multiple times) and Ortega himself ran on an anti-development platform. One of the big public concerns is traffic. Imo he's worried because he's on record just a few months ago saying that this huge condo development should be okay, and now there's going to be a big arena built right across the street that without a doubt is going to have some traffic implications.

There are also articles suggesting he's caved to established local developers (who he should have good relationships with, given his career as an architect) in the past and rejected development plans from newcomers that would compete with them. One of the other approved developments is a big mixed use one right next to a shopping center that's owned by the same developer, about a mile and a half down the road. I think that makes the "rookie developer" mention in his op ed more interesting. Theoretically, the arena's retail spaces could compete with the other two developments', although I don't think this should be a big concern.

Ultimately, as long as the arena doesn't use Scottsdale's infrastructure, it's hard for me to see what actual power their mayor would have over it. The land was already rezoned in 2017 (case # Z-87-03-2) and should be fine for an arena. It's fully within the city of Phoenix and none of the required infrastructure improvements listed with the auction involve the city of Scottsdale. (Those are dated February 29th, so the mayor should be well aware of that.) The most Scottsdale as a whole would be able to do would be to drag their feet about approving road improvements (which would be paid by the developer, not the city) specifically to the east side of the parcel.

The arena's still a hard project, don't get me wrong, but I really don't think this changes anything.

  9. Mike you're too negative!! No way the league would pull out the Yotes from AZ before the auction. You don't believe in the Coyotes staying you haven't for a long time. You cannot hide your true feelings. I understand your loyalty to Canada. F the Scottsdale mayor it's not in Scottsdale. He's mad they left I'm 2002!!! The NHL needs more US teams not Canadian. Wouldn't surprise me if Winnipeg moved to Quebec City–after they get knocked out in round one. Winnipeg ownership is unhappy right now.

  10. The Coyotes are 100% relocating.

    – The Arizona Coyotes have lost $115.2 million USD between 2013 and 2022 (according to Forbes Business of Hockey). That is more than any other team in the NHL over that same period. Fact.

    – In the past 28 years the Arizona Coyotes are at a NET LOSS. Fact.

    – The Coyotes can't stay at the Footprint center because it converted to basketball exclusively. Fact.

    – The Arizona Coyotes were also sued by the city of Phoenix twice for interfering with zoning laws in accordance with planned flight paths. Facts.

    – The team was sued by city of Glendale for not paying taxes – On December 3 2021, the Arizona Department of Revenue slapped the Arizona Coyotes with a tax lien. Fact.

    – The Coyotes were rejected by the cities of Scottsdale (Los Arcos mall site in 1995-1996)

    – the Coyotes were rejected by the city of Tempe (May 16 2023). Fact.

Coyotes still have to find a location to build an area. And purchase the land… (they are talking about a parcel of land in Scottsdale, but nothing has happened as of March 13 2024 – and that site is in a BAD location apparently very little hockey fans/money in that area.

My understanding (and this was told to me by Coyotes fans) ONLY the east valley of Phoenix has a lot of hockey fans.

This proposed site (Loop 101 West of Scottsdale Road) is FAR, FAR NORTHEAST…not even close to where people are. It is not even in the East Valley anymore, it is in the North, it is not in a highly populated area. And those were some of the main issues with drawing fans to Glendale (in the West Valley…a lack of fans).

Furthermore, "the 100 acre plot of land currently has no road access to the site…they have not spoken about how they will secure the water rights for the current and future needs of a project of this size"…

To build a brand new arena from scratch, takes on average 3 years of construction (assuming there are NO delays).

It sounds like there has to be a PUBLIC AUCTION FOR THE LAND FOR A MINIMUM OF 10 WEEKS to allow other people a chance to purchase the land. And then the ARENA PLANS have to be approved by the government, they don't just let you build whatever you want.

The auction will START on March 14th 2024….the land must be put up for auction for minimum of 10 weeks…May 23 2024 soonest without delays (HOWEVER they actually announced this week the auction will probably end in June 2024).

The realistic soonest possible date for a new arena construction. would be June 2027. (2027-2028 NHL season – where will the Coyotes play until then? They can't play at Mullet until then.)

Therefore…The Arizona Coyotes are 100% relocating.

Why spend $500 million on another arena, which may or may not work out? That would be crazy. To build this team a new arena would be insane. to pump $500 million into an arena, while an arena in Glendale EXISTS and the team lost $115.2 million in the past ten years – you will NEVER RECOUP YOUR LOSSES IN ARIZONA.

List of NHL sized arenas in cities without NHL teams:

    – Videotron Centre – Quebec City, Quebec

    – MODA Center – Portland, Oregon

    – Fiserv Forum – Milwaukee, Wisconsin

    – Delta Center – Salt Lake City, Utah

    – Toyota Center – Houston, Texas

    – FirstOntario Centre – Hamilton, Ontario (currently renovating)

    – Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse – Cleveland, Ohio

    – T-Mobile Center (Sprint Center) – Kansas City, Missouri

Every single one of those cities are more deserving of an NHL city than Phoenix (or Atlanta for that matter).

Some of these locations would ACTUALLY generate revenue for the NHL unlike the Arizona Coyotes.

  11. Time to just relocate the franchise to a city that will actually support the team. It seems fairly obvious that the necessary support for a professional hockey team is not there in Arizona

  12. Im in AZ and have been to 30 Coyotes games at the Mullett…the one question that NOBODY is asking is Where are all the Coyotes fans that will fill a 17,000 seat arena…for the CBJ game two weeks ago in AZ it was 50-50 CBJ-Coyotes fans…for Edm Pitt Bos NYR TOR its 90-95% opposing team fans..if you go to my page CTB I have an 8 minute video tour of the Mullett vs Detroit…in 8 minutes you see less than 10 Coyotes jerseys…I enjoy your channel..I like that you are fact oriented..keep up the great work!

  13. The NHL wants to be in Phoenix. Even if the Yotes were to leave for SLC, Phoenix would be first in line for expansion once they get their current issues resolved.

  14. what is the obsession with SLC, they have a owner who is actively trying to sabotage the coyotes plans and take the team. there is no evidence that hockey will work in SLC, youth leagues are non existent, the delta center is awful, old and seats 12k for hockey. there will need to be a new arena in SLC very soon and with KC voting down public money (and now vegas is fighting public money for the As) getting new public arena is not a for sure plan.

  15. This is pathetic clearly hockey is small niche market, that very few care about. Relocate the team and put an AHL franchise at mullet arena. I can't believe that they can't even sell out a five thousand seat arena. 😂
