  1. 12 goals on 58 shots. The past 2 games have not been good for DeSmith. Rick not pulling him in either game is absolutely moronic. It should not be understated that it has cost us an opportunity to come back in both games. Our powerplay has been abouslety atrocious since December. Rick needs to take lonnggg think about his decisions. Hopefully, the accountability that Rick loves to talk about is also kept when it comes to himself

Boy oh boy where do I even begin. Casey..
honey, my pookie bear. I have loved you
ever since I first laid eyes on you. The way
you guard the net and strike fear
into your opponents’ shots. Your quick reflexes
and impeccable saves, it’s like poetry in motion. I would do anything for you. I
wish it were possible to freeze time so I
would never have to watch you retire.
You had a tough journey to the NHL, but you never gave up hope. You are even amazing off the ice, you’re a great teammate and role model, sometimes I even call you captain. I forever dread and weep, thinking of the day you will one day retire. I would sacrifice my own life if it were the only thing that could put a smile on your beautiful face.
You have given me so much joy, and heartbreak over the years. I remember when you first got traded and it’s like my heart got broken into a million pieces. But a tear still fell from my right eye when I watched you make that incredible save in overtime, because deep down, my glorious goalie deserved it. I just wanted you to succeed. Then alas, you did, my sweet baby boy found his place and I rejoiced.
2023 was a hard year for us baby, but in
2024 you made history happen. You came
back from being down 3-0 in the playoffs and I couldn’t believe it.
I was crying, bawling even, and I heard my
    glorious goalie exclaim these words,
“VANCOUVER, THIS IS FOR YOU!” Not only
have you changed the game of hockey
and the world forever, but you’ve eternally
changed my world. And now you’re getting
older, but still the best, my best. I love
you pookie bear, my glorious goalie, Casey
    Desmith.

Ok here’s what you do next game, Tocchet.

    Petey – Miller – Boeser

    Mikheyev – Suter – Höglander

    Garland – Blueger – Joshua

Whoever the fuck can play on the 4th line

    .
    .

    Hughes – Hronek

    Soucy – Myers

    Juulsen – Zadorov/Cole

    .
    .

    Silovs

  4. They could play the entire game on the power play and still lose. Thats how bad special teams has been.

It’s amazing that we’ve far exceed expectations this season, but it’s time to move on from the initial surprise and look at our current play, and there’s reason to be concerned. Aside from Desmith, PP:

Petey looks uninterested and scared of hard work. More ‘off’ weeks (let’s blame it on injuries again) than stretches of good games. I don’t care abt his scoreless drought, that’s okay. But if he gave half as much effort and grunt work as Miller, Hughes, Gar, Hogs, Joshua etc he would actually start looking like the superstar we know he is. And superstars should be able to carry a line regardless of his wingers. That’s not an excuse. He’s wasting his potential and it’s frustrating and hard to watch.

Petey: “*Well… who’s up for team dinner? I’m paying!*”

  7. hannah_nj

I like that they kept up the pressure — up until LA got that SHG I really did think there was a chance. The 3rd period PK was super impressive as well; of course it would have been nice for it to show up in the first five minutes of the game but it’s good to know that it can show up like that in make or break moments.

I don’t think it’s fair to place the blame for this game entirely on DeSmith — a lot of the goals he let in were pretty damn impossible to stop, and ideally our defence would’ve have allowed all of those chances. Same can be said for a lot of the goals he’s let in over this last stretch.

*However.* The thing about a great goalie like Demko is that he *does* make some of those near-impossible saves, and he often does it in critical moments in the game (keeps us down by only 2 instead of 3, doesn’t allow a tying goal late in the 3rd, etc.). Every team will have defensive lapses or make a bad mistake over the course of a game, so it’s not like we’re outliers here — we just happened to have lost our starting (likely Vezina finalist) goalie for a month during which we have played a lot of really good teams, and while DeSmith has done all you can ask of a backup this season, he’s not Demko. He ordinarily would have never been scheduled for all of these games against playoff teams. I don’t think we rely on goaltending by any means, but it’s certainly helpful to be bailed out from time-to-time in a way that lets us stay in the game.

  8. HenrikFromDaniel

Höglander the only Canucks skater not credited with a SOG

CDS almost made it to the .800 club but takes a .793 on the night

  9. YouCanFucough

I know we got shelled but I really didn’t feel like we were playing that poorly outside of a few terrible sequences.

  10. gamerofdestiny

What happened to this team? Where’s the offensive prowess and killer instinct from the start of the season? I didn’t expect them to be top of the league all year or anything but a team at the top of their division shouldn’t look like the weakest club going into the playoffs.

  11. Stinky_Toes12

Silovs gets at least 3 of the goals casey let in

  12. Necessary-Camp-5812

The backup goalie isn’t luongo/markstrom/demko so don’t start shitting on him when he doesn’t perform like them. This fanbase is used to excellent goalies in the past and expect everyone to play at the same level as them which is absurd

  13. PaperMoonShine

Once the game was over 6-3 there should have been a response for Hughes. Nothing. So disappointing.

  14. metrichustle

If DeSmith had a .900 sv%, it’s 3-3 going into OT. Hate to blame the goalie for losses, but this is one we’d win with Demko

  15. WoofersGoWoof

i’d honestly would try to put dakota and garland in pp1 and petey with lindholm and hogs in pp2. That way petey can drive the pp2 and build up confidence again and put joshua as a net front presence with garly and miller on the half wall and boes being bumper. Our pp is literally losing us games because our 5v5 is pretty good

  16. BryanAKADJ

I blame the Sportsnet Playoffs commercial, Hughes is the only one I think saying Stanley Cup and surely thats bad voodoo.

  17. starrynova888

Got fucking bullied all game. Weak and embarrassing.

  18. Oilers have caught them in wins and overtaken in goal differential. Another week and they’ll have the division. This is an epic collapse.

  19. crunchone

Did I read that game thread right? 2 shorthanded goals?

  20. Clean_n_Press

Listening to Conroy talk about Kuzmenko being on a heater on Afterhours is tough. Happy for him, though. I’ll never not love Kuzy.

  21. wallnutxjames

Hear me out… coaching staff need to figure out how to beat these structures… our dumping in doesn’t work if they beat us there every time

  22. MikaelDerp

I spent 1200$ on playoff tickets. For the love of christ don’t make me regret it, please.

  23. ezkc1236

I agree with most that have said Desmith didnt play well tonight, but I’d pin the lost on Toc. After the 1st 2 goals, even us lowly fans can see that Desmith isn’t playing well, and lacking confidence. I don’t get Toc’s reluctance in switching up goalies. Getting lit up doesnt help your goalie’s confidence any more than pulling him.

  24. PantsDancing

Kent Brockman to scientist: Would you say its time for our viewers to crack each other’s heads open and feast on the goo inside?

    Scientist: Yes I would Kent.

  25. Didn’t we have a 25 point lead at one point

  26. unbannedcoug

What if the skaters on the ice realized Petey was in all alone for a breakaway..? History would have been made.

  27. Zenkraft

I said it I’m the live thread but they way this team makes opposing goalies play so well makes me think the offence isn’t that dangerous.
How many of our shots are long shots, then maybe an up close scramble. Petey missing and Mik being cursed by a dark wizard is really stinging.

  28. Nazzy1968

See, DeSmith didn’t play well, but they hung him out to dry on a couple of the goals. The playoffs are all about being detail oriented and I just don’t see the canucks playing like that, at the moment. Too much of a good five minutes, followed by a minute of being asleep. And that costs you games, especially in the playoffs. Until that is sorted, it won’t matter what goalie we have in net.

  29. -T-Reks-

games don’t matter, this is basically playoff pre-season

you can say i’m coping, sure. Beats crying and sucking on a gun barrel while watching 2011 highlights like the rest of ya

  30. itsallartyup

You gotta keep Boeser and Miller together. And you gotta reunite Blueger Garland and Joshua. Blueger and Boeser are ineffective right now

  31. BigCockBrockBoeser

Oh PDO gods, please bless the Vancouver Canucks once more with your grace and let thine power flow through the lotto line, and the third line, and also let the second and fourth line be blessed too, I guess.

  33. JohnnyJinglo

desmith played like trash, we did well in la’s zone, couldnt capitlize and obviously the risk taking bit us in the ass in the 3rd. Our dump and chase is starting to piss me off cause like scoring off the rush and taking the puck in is super important and every top team utilizes that except us it seems. Pp is fucking awful still. Overall 6/10 game for us, score shoulda been closer but alas.

  34. carry-on_replacement

I don’t think goaltending is necessarily on DeSmith but more on the coaching staff for not trying something that is working. Silovs was a brick wall against an Arizona team that is blowing out playoff teams. Why play DeSmith who played 8/9 homestand games (in a row) and most of this road trip? We wouldn’t play even Demko this much and we’re expecting DeSmith to remain sharp?

Tocc is great and all but he and his coaching staff gets stubborn about the stupidest things.

  35. LittleDogPockets

Swept and kept scoreless calling it now.

  36. Spatrico123

can anyone think of a good reason why we aren’t running

    hog – Petey- Mik

    Suter- Miller – Boeser

     Dak – bluegs- garly

podz – Aman (Lindholm when healthy) – Laff/pdg

? This seems like an obvious lineup to me given how well those top 2 lines have been playing throughout the season. I know Mik/Suter aren’t ideal up front, but I think reuniting the no name line would make up for that

  37. Kind of embarrassing how we let Edmonton close the gap from fucking 17pts to 3pts. Even more embarrassing that we had Canucks fans laughing at Edmontons 16 game win streak and strugging it off as a fluke as if we had earned anything yet. Pathetic show of effort as of late, and yet we still have people here plugging their ears unwilling to acknowledge what a shit show this has been since the all star break. Really not doing us any favors against the accusations of being pretenders when we can barely scrape together wins against bottom feeder teams and lose to playoff teams.

  38. overthisbynow

Everyone kept saying everything was fine because we were first for a time but we’ve been on a downward spiral since the ASB and it’s only gotten worse. The fact we’re scraping wins against bottom teams means nothing when we get dominated by every playoff team we face. Idk how anyone can be satisfied with us dominating two thirds of the regular season if we just get bounced in the first round. Literally no different from the barely make it in and hope for the best strategy if the result is going to be the same.

  39. NikkahEff

I’ve been pretty quiet but now that I’ve evaluated how the guys have been playing against the top teams and I will say that this team is starting to look like the old canucks and that the true colours are showing. I know we don’t have demko but the lack of defence coverage on some of the goals tonight and the lack of effort on some of these games IE: Vegas has been concerning. The guys need to fucking wake up and realize playoffs are around the corner and really need to start picking up the pace here, it may be a quick 0-4 on the playoffs if they continue dicking around like this, now I know some good teams are struggling these past two weeks but how we’ve played is no excuse, we barely beat the ducks and coyotes. I’m not as hyped as I was before as I’m starting to see old habits creep back and touch is struggling to get them back on track.

  40. helixflush

Brock Boeser: needs 1 goal for 40

JT Miller: needs 3 points for 100

    Elias Pettersson:

Quinn Hughes: franchise multi-record breaking defenceman

    Nils Hoglander: career high goals

    Dakota Joshua: career high goals

Thatcher Demko: Rested going into playoffs

There’s lots to be excited about.
