We’re going over the Edmonton Oilers 2021 Draft, and how they traded away the pick to select eventual Minnesota Wild goalie Jesper Wallstedt in favour of prospect Xavier Bourgault, who was taken one pick before Dallas Stars forward Wyatt Johnston.

Redwings also needed a goalie and chose the wrong one.
It's probably a First-Overall curse. They drafted first overall four times within a short few years. They didn't think they need to pay attention to any other first-rounders or the remaining rounds. Laziness kills.

I will admit the Edmonton Oilers had their fair share of draft pick fumbles over the years, but may I remind you at the Vancouver Canucks has had even worse fumbles than that. I will not mention them because they are well documented on the channel. If you’re gonna rip on the Oilers, At least, wait until we’re bad again
Eazy to say afterward… still Wallstead was rank moslty No.10 overall so not only the Oilers missed it but other team too! It was a steal at No 20! Johnston was mostly projected AFTER Bourgault and ranked as high as No. 40! So Dallas made a huge gamble but if he was that good why he was taken that LATE?
Nobody outside of Dallas was as high on Wyatt Johnston. Everyone saw that pick as a reach at the time. Stars scouting is goated.
The oilers had their core pretty well set and never should have been using these picks for anything other than trade bait to get mcjebus a cup
Edmonton's drafting has been very bad for awhile. Earlier this year the Athletic ranked the Oilers as the 27th best team for drafting since 2007. They have a terrible track record when drafting outside of the top 10, and the worst record in the league of picking players outside of the first round. If they were league average in drafting, they'd probably have won multiple cups by now.
