I saw one of these at like a Nordstrom rack in Arizona in the 90’s and I thought it was a mistake type thing and that’s why they were selling them way out of Detroit. I’ve coincidentally seen them in the wild whenever I go to watch the wings when they are in town. I never figured out the back story to these jerseys so I’m here to see if anyone has answers and hopefully the tale involves someone getting fired.

I have one and I love it, got it for $35 probably a decade ago. Starter also made a black one around the same time, was never intended to be worn by the team. It’s one of my most worn jerseys because I’m too scared to get the other ones dirty or messed up.

Just 90s hockey at its finest as far as I know. The poster who said it was a “fashion” idea from Starter is likely right. Not an official jersey for sure but definitely one I remember seeing in the crowd growing up
