  1. So, while this is a good video so far, I haven't finished, but when you started mentioning playoffs appearances, something didn't sound right, so I paused the video to fact-check. So, two major errors in this are as follows: After the 2001-02 season, they qualified for the playoffs in the 2009-10, 2010-11, and the 2011-12 seasons before not making the playoffs, outside the 2019-20 shortened season, to present. It was the 2011-12 season playoffs they made the conference finals, where they got steamrolled by the Kings, like all the other teams the Kings faced in to win the Stanley Cup for the 1st time. Lol, just wanted to put that out there for you, as you're rewriting my Kings history by having the Coyotes not there. Incidentally, it was that playoffs series that is the reason Coyotes fans hate Dustin Brown.😅

  2. For those that want to point out that the Coyotes are at the Cap floor and can’t afford star players, you’re right and they shouldn’t. It doesn’t make sense to get a McDavid or Matthews with this roster, you are just wasting money. Better to build your hockey operations. Draft lots a prospects and develop them properly and when they are reaching their full potential then you spend the money on the roster. Hitting the Cap ceiling should be the indication that you are making a Cup run, if you are not there then you need some Cap room to make those trades, to pick up those free agents needed to make that run. The Coyotes are finally dong the rebuild properly for a cup contender, not hobbled trying to just get to the playoffs. The Arena is the last piece needed for rebuild of the Coyotes.

  3. The Coyotes' most powerful era is one day nearer to us. You do not know what sacrifices have been made at the temple. People best shelve their disdain and skepticism, yes, lest they invoke the celestial wrath of those who set the joshua trees afire next to a bottle of JW!

  4. Not only do a lot of hockey fans from other states live in the Phoenix area, there are also fans who live in other states and go to Arizona to watch their team play the coyotes.

  5. 16 teams make the playoffs, other 16 don't. Only 1 wins the cup. If there were 16 teams, most teams would have s better chance to win.

  6. I'm of the belief that if the team hasn't caught on with the general public in the region after almost 30 years, they should just sell and move the team to Salt Lake.

  7. I would most like to see the team move to Regina and be Renamed The Thrashers. The original Thrashers are now The Jets and the original Jets are now The Thrashers. Also it's 8 Canadian teams and no more lateral gaps for NHL teams in Canadian provinces. Though from a monetary and geographical standpoint, Salt Lake City makes much more sense, given its proximity to Vegas and Colorado. It's sad for the hockey community in AZ, but meh, they've had a long enough ride and they're are more deserving locations.

  8. Im honestly surprised the attendance is as low as it has been considering such a massive amount of retired Canadians that live there. I've seen more Canadian plates in Phoenix than Alaska or any other state for that matter. Then again, while I was visiting family there, they had a game one night, and the cheapest tickets we found were $100. Aint no fuckin way we were paying that.

  9. Lol, there are already some leaks that Maruelo is looking for buyers. I've been watching Hockey for 20+ years and the Coyotes have been a joke for that long, now they are literally a blister. No one even wants to hear about them or that name. This Arena ain't happening, the teams is getting sold AGAIN and it's moving.

  10. I totally understand why people just want the Coyotes moved and that the NHL has tried so hard to keep them in Arizona despite all the hardships; however, I really hope they get the arena done and it translates to stability for the franchise. The Yotes are a great young team with a lot of potential as a future cup contender and the fans deserve it as well. Can’t imagine how hard it is for any fanbase to watch their team move away

  11. Wow, there IS an auction date? I seriously thought that announcement was an April Fools Day joke that I was just late to see.

  12. Yotes are the Oakland A’s of hockey. Little to no success. History of bad ownership. Playing in a tiny area for the next couple years.

  13. Yotes lost in the first round to the wings in both 2008 and 2010. 2012 was the magic year, and yes I am still salty about game 5 penalty in overtime should’ve been a yotes pp but LA won the series instead. I was 12 years old. Since May of 2012 I haven’t had the slightest hope of the yotes winning a cup. Been szn tix holders since 2005. since moving to the mullett they have had some of the most exciting hockey I have ever seen from the team. And now they are planning to move 5 min from my house. Can it be 2027 now?

  14. Sounds like Edmonton’s ice district where there’s hotels restaurants extra venues all around the arena.

  15. Why do I have a feeling that someone who doesn’t like someone who hates Meruelo will intentionally try to make him lose this bid?

  16. They moved to Phoenix in 1996, not 1994. Also they went to the conference finals in 2012, not 2010.

  17. As a Seattle fan, I don’t like Vegas. As a younger hockey fan, I love that Vegas proved that hockey can work in the desert

  18. The best thing that came from the NHL owning the Coyotes when they went on that Conference final run, was that if they went on to win the cup, Bettman would hand the cup to himself. It's always made me laugh.

  19. No offense to the Coyotes org, but they can’t even build a competitive hockey team. They’re really going to build their own arena and city center??

  20. Great video, Shannon. Three things…

    1. The Coyotes reached the Western Conference Finals in 2012, not 2010.

    2. The "howling head" logo was introduced in time for the 2003-2004 season. Played their final 3 months at America West Arena with the new look before moving over to Glendale in December 2003.

    3. The team name switched to the Arizona moniker on June 27, 2014 (so we are closing in on 10 full years) because of a clause in the 2013 arena lease where Glendale officials requested the state name. They were not keen on having any financial investment in the Coyotes with the name of a larger neighboring city.

Lastly, I firmly believe the Coyotes will ultimately WILL STAY in Arizona. This is the right plan and the right deal, more than Tempe ever was.

  21. Don't understand why people don't see this entire, what, 5 years as a total clown show to 'show' other cities the NHL 'won't abandon them' until all options are exhausted. Here is the issue, the owners don't want this team moving to one of a handful of legit expansion cities. Why? Ah…. no expansion team pay day for owners! OR, the league delays this forever, the team gets bought and sold (always better later than sooner since price ALWAYS goes up) and this team is off to? Houston. 5th largest TV market. Utah seems to have the most money behind it upfront but… The Oakland A's did all the same stuff, renderings, the 'models to scale' all that to be a front to them not 'wanting to leave' then? they did… that is how this is going to play out. They 'won't get the bid' on the land… or, even if they do, some other thing will 'fall through' then the league might finally say to move on (but probably not) I don't think any of the other owners looking at that draft cupboard want anything but financial futility for this team, or, a place to dump bad contracts etc. in exchange for picks, however (see draft cupboard) this is going to backfire on them dramatically. Even if you are extremely bad at drafting (which the yotes aren't) they will get, at min 5 legit top 30 players, probably 2 stars and at least 3 legit D out of it, even by sheer luck. Been saying for years, this team is going to be an absolute problem for the league, not because of finance, but because of the waves of talent they will have for years. THink of all the rebuilds we've seen, PITT, EDM, LA… whoever…. none, had even remotely close the picks this team does, I honestly think their goal is to get ALL the picks LOL!

  22. Back in 1995 or 1996 the original Jets should have moved to Minnesota and this Arizona mess wouldn't be going on right now

  23. As much a I would love to see a team in salt lake I really hope it works out for them maybe they can do a pre season game here

  24. Thanks for the video, THG! As a diehard Yotes fan, I'm very much hoping they stay in the desert. They've got some awesome young talent – I think they're well on their way to being a great team.

  25. this shopping/nightlife area idea won't work alone with an NHL team; need an NBA team in there as well.

  26. From what I have heard on s and p with frank today shanon and the people in Arizona are the people who think this works. I how ever agree with frank this show may be over before this summer

  27. They couldn't pay their rent at Gila River and got booted, but they have the money to build a new arena? Something's rotten in Denmark.
