Have arguably one of the better defensive lines in the country right now you’re going to be saying goodbye to Omari Thomas Omar Norman law Bryson e um Elijah Simmons Dominic Bailey I’m pretty sure a lot most of those guys are going to be out of Eligibility maybe a couple of

Those guys will have a have a covid year but Omari Thomas for sure omo Norman lot for sure are going to be gone Elijah Simmons for sure is going to be gone so you need to kind of replenish when when you take some out of the covero you need

For the second time in back-to-back fashion Tennessee goes to the Sweet 16 for the 10th time overall and um Tennessee is going back and meeting a team in kraton who has been there for the third time in their past four uh Seasons so kraton’s a really really good ball Club obviously

Talked about it earlier in the week you look at the net rankings Tennessee’s Tennessee is rank number seven kraton is rank number 11 quad one wins Tennessee is 8- seven where kraton is eight and five quad 2 wins tenness is 5- one kraton is 7-4 look at the kpom rankings

Tennessee comes in at eight kraton’s still there at number 11 and then here’s what a lot of people want to know the adjusted offensive efficiency rating Tennessee is ranked 29th scoring 16.4 points per 100 possessions whereas kraton is number 11 scoring 12.3 points per 100 possession so slightly better

Than Tennessee in that regard 11 compared to 29th in the country but Tennessee gets back with the third best defense in the country adjusted defensive efficiency rating Tennessee allows 89.9 points per 100 possessions which is so good that ranks number three in the country and kraton ranks 23rd in

The country giving up 96.2 points per 100 possessions so you look at these two team teams on paper so well-rounded right I mean those adjusted efficiency ratings are really good for both of those teams I mean there’s not one on there that’s bad and obviously the net

Ranked High kenpom ranked High quad one wins are there and all that excuse me guys kraton is a really good ball Club I mean it’s 25 and n on the season tied for second place in the Big East this this regular season it’s its ninth straight season of 20 wins or more

Think about that ninth straight season of 20 wins or more um and again as I mentioned a moment ago they’re entering the sweet 16 for the third time in their past Four Seasons and Baylor shyan third time All-American leads the charge he leads the charge 18 points per game 9.1 rebounds per

Game really really good player I kind of went over his stats earlier in the week in terms of all the All-American games that he’s been on a couple of the other notable players for uh kraton but again it begins and ends with Baylor Shan he shoots with that left hand number 55 um

He’s going to make you frustrated because he’s going to score some points and you know sometimes it might not look like he needs to be scoring some points excuse me when um you know Santiago vby might be cold or Jordan gy might be cold or whatever but Baylor shyan’s a really

Really good player um again I think he’s got eight eight All-American accolades already for this season um and he he joins Dalton connect as two of five finalist for the Julius Irving award as well so really really good player and that’s where it all starts for Katon you

Got to stop Baylor Sharman if you are going to win this game another thing about kraton that Tennessee’s really got to try and disrupt kraton is going to shoot a ton of three corners on average kraton shoots 29 three-point shots a game that it’s ninth in the country in

Terms of volume that is a lot of three-pointers now I’ve been talking about perimeter defense all week long as well Tennessee ranks 31st in the country out of like 300 plus teams or how many they are in defending the three-point shot allowing opponents to shoot 30.9% from long distance against

Tennessee so it’s going to be a key perimeter defense and also eliminating Second Chance opportunities when you shoot that many threes you’re not going to make all those right so you have got to be there and get the basketball rebound the basketball and don’t allow kraton to have second chance

Opportunities that is going to be a huge huge point of emphasis in this basketball game in my opinion um really looking forward to seeing Dalton connect okay I feel like dton connect I mean he iced the game at the free throw line against Texas and that was fun to see I

Want to see him kind of go off I want to see him have one of those NCAA performances that he that that kind of replicates what he did against Auburn what he did against um Alabama what he did against Georgia what he did against all these other teams where he’s putting

Up like know close North Carolina you know where he’s putting up close to 40 if not 40 points that’d be a whole lot of fun to see and that would give Tennessee only at seconds with a performance like that you’d expect Tennessee to win right and Tennessee

Would be in only its second Elite 8 game in program history 2010 with Bruce Pearl Tennessee’s only Elite 8 uh Elite eight appearance in program history and remember Tennessee has never been to the final four can this year be different I hope so Tennessee struggles in sweet 16 play Rob Lewis over

Throughout this season if not this year then when this is the best chance Rick Barnes will ever have in my opinion at this stage in his career the best chance because of the senior leadership the seniors that know how to play for Rick Barnes that know how to defend that know

Some of the guys who were talked about the most if you will like I feel like brilin Staley was kind of the guy that everybody talked about in week one and there’s still been some good things about him but a fellow freshman wide receiver has been talked about more in

Week number two and that is Mike Matthews Mike Matthews caught a long touchdown down the near sideline with Gass and Moore in the second offense and the scrimmage on Wednesday um that was fun to see I’ve seen him make a couple nice catches at practice while the media

Is out there I’ve heard a lot of people say hey Mike Matthew is gonna play he’s going to be a good good player and so I’m excited to see kind of how he continues to progress and really when fall gets here what that rotation of wide receivers going to look like

Because Mike Matthews is is doing well brilin Staley had a great start to Spring practice and you brought in Chris Brazzle who I talked to somebody who was at the scrimmage yesterday and I got this was like the fourth or fifth person I talked to and I said hey give me one

Player that caught your eye today in the spring scrimmage and I was expecting them to say one of the other names or situations that already written down on my notes and they said Chris brazle and I’m like oh really hadn’t heard his name yet and talking to some people like yeah

Made a couple nice catches really really good route Runner running with multiple you know first and second teams he just looked clean out there to me today like okay so mik Matthews brilin Staley Chris Brazzle nobody’s been mentioned more than this wide receiver I mean this is

Kind of a wide receiver segment nobody’s been mentioned more to me than Dante thoron I know a lot of fans don’t like Dante thoron because they had such high expectations hey I was leading that charge last year I was saying hey this guy’s going to be in player this guy’s

Going to be a stud and I still think those things can be true but obviously it was um it was unfortunate it was uh it was not a good year for him and just when he was starting to come around after bumping outside and all that he

Gets hurt and probably the best play he made all year you know catching that touchdown in Missouri where he boxed out the cornerback got behind him and and boxed him out and made an adjustment of the ball great play um Dante Thorton has looked good out there when I’ve been there and Don

Thorton is a name that a lot of people have said man he’s he’s doing well he’s playing More Physical he’s gotten bigger he has a better understanding of the offense him and Nico are in in sync in sync back tree boys um that’s great that’s great news but I’m just so

Curious what this rotation is going to look like CU I thought maybe potentially there weren’t there weren’t many Rumblings about this at all I’m not trying to make something that that wasn’t there but I was like okay since transfers can now transfer Unlimited right transfers who were here on your

Campus they can now leave again with no charge I was like man D thoron might leave because you brought in his replacement in Chris brazle right you brought in his replacement but Dante Thorton’s having a great spring and I don’t know if he was going to leave or

Not I don’t know if he’s going to leave or not I’m not saying I’ve heard anything but I’m like man that’s going to be really interesting but donante Thorton’s having a really really good spring so um ultimately I sidebar here I mean this April 16th when the transfer portal window opens again

I’m not saying it’s going to be crazy I’m not buying into the mass chaos because I don’t think anything can top what happened in December but because the NCAA lost that appeal in the in the courts transfers can continue to go I mean there’s no penalty and there’s no

Penalty for there’s no penalty for pay for play right now I mean that’s what the state of Tennessee fought for and the Attorney General’s office so it is straight up ww west it is straight up pay for play and transfers can leave again if they want to so if you’re

Buried down the depth chart or you don’t like your new coach or whatever you can leave starting April 16th um I’m intrigued to see how that’s going to affect Tennessee I’m intrigued to see how that’s going to affect really college football overall but remember this key note if you leave an SEC school

You can’t go to another sec School in the second window that is something important to remember so like a Tennesse player can’t leave the balls and go down and play Florida you’d have to do that in December but overall um I’m intrigued to see what this second

Window is going to look like back to the topic of this segment and that’s winners of spring practice here in week number two so um I mention all those receivers and I mean I’m not just I’m not just saying that to say it I mean I really

Think I mean I’ve heard those names over and over and over brillin Staley in week one Mike Matthews here in week two Chris Brazzle getting better and getting more comfortable and Dante thoron leading the charge and being the the most impressive guy of them all so that’s good to hear

Another name I’ve heard a lot is jacobe Thomas and I just think that you know with EV with everything being so new in the secondary you know Andre Ton’s a leader back there he’s been in the system now for three years he knows what the expectations are for Tim Banks and

For Willie Martinez and he played a little bit last year so he’s a leader he’s a calming presence but I think in that same regard though it’s not been in the same system and he doesn’t know these coaches as well is jacobe Thomas because he’s played so much football but

The coaches have bragged about him a lot and you’ve heard his name an awful lot as well that being jacobe Thomas Josh hyp mentioned John Slaughter in his his um press conference the other day as well so I think that’s that’s important um the tight ends hearing a little bit

More about here lately not as much Ethan Davis that doesn’t have to be a bad thing not as much Ethan Davis but heard a lot about Holden stays and as I mentioned on yesterday’s show when I could barely breathe and talk because I was so sick uh miles

Kelman sound still sounding a little sick today but feeling and sounding much better my opinion um miles skitman had a really good scrimmage the other day and when you get in the red zone and when you put three tight ends on the field he’ll play and potentially he can

He can come in and play Whenever Tennessee needs needs the HB to be more physical or needs to tied in to to block better or whatever the case is I mean that’s kind of been mil miles kelman so far in Spring practice it’s been good to see right Lance herd he’s definitely won

Spring practice so far getting more comfortable with this offense with this scheme things are slowing down that’s good Lance herd I’ve continued to to hear his name over and over and he’s physically probably the most impressive looking dude out there right I mean he was a five star for a reason five stars

Just kind of Pop you know um and that that’s been Lance herd so those are some of the names altogether that I’ve kind of mentioned here Dante Thorton jacobe Thomas Mike Matthews the transfer tight ends and Holden stays miles kelman Lance herd Chris Brazzle brillan Staley those are who I would kind of

Characterize as winners through two weeks of spring football practice now Tennessee will be back in practice they’re off they were off yesterday they’re off today they’re off this weekend for Easter and they’ll come back on Monday get back to practice there’ll be another spring scrimmage at some point either next week maybe next

Weekend um and then the orange and Y game will come up a little bit after that on April the 11th so um looking forward to seeing how Tennessee finishes off Spring practice looking forward to seeing Tennessee playing this 2016 coming up tonight against kraton I know
