Making the case for Auston Matthews for Hart Trophy

  1. “Betting odds” are based on amount of money being bet on each option rather than actual probability.

  2. No, On his best day he's only a fraction of the player McDavid is on his worst, Matthews is literally only good at scoring on bad teams hence the 22 career playoff goals.

  3. Kucherov, Mackinnon and McDavid all have around 25 secondary assists. Matthews has 8. I didn't realize secondary powerplay assists are worth as much as a goal. You can argue it is one point on the scoresheet. However, the scoreboard counts by ones. Kucherov is out of the conversation. He doesn't play defense and is almost negative on the year. The conversation is between Mack, Mcdavid, Matthews and Hughes…

  4. Once again people forget what the Hart Trophy is a reward for… Is it most goals? No – that's the Rocket Richard. Is it the most impressive 'record-breaking' season? No – you could argue that's the Bill Masterton Trophy because of the perseverance needed…

The HART Trophy is awarded to the player who is the most ''valuable'' to their team and the NHL as a whole. Matthews is a generational goal scorer, but his attitude and his approach to the NHL is no different than the first half of Ovechkin's career. He aims for personal achievement and doesn't see the need to put his team first. You won't find him anywhere near the boards, or the defensive zone, or in a scrum protecting one of his teammates… does that sound like someone who should win the Hart Trophy (does it even sound like the most valuable player on their own team)? Again, he's literally the best goal scorer since Ovechkin – but in my view (even as a Leafs fan) it isn't enough. McDavid, McKinnon and (Quinn) Hughes each seem a lot more ''valuable'' to their teams and to the league as a whole.

  5. Toronto Sports Network again showing their brain damage. Crosby is more deserving than Matthews.

  6. @tonybleu

.hahahahahaha carried his team to the playoffs, and, quickly eliminated since his entry in the nhl

.mvps dont ‘carry ‘ their team through just one round

.just imo

  7. Until they go on a deep playoff run who cares I want to see what he does in the playoffs. I don't care games this team wins in the regular season everyone knows they will have 50 wins.

  8. Mackinon and matthews are the only 2 hart trophy candidates that play defence. It’s between one of these 2 guys. This is MVP not best offensive player

  9. Matthews has 48 goals in 52 games. 13 of 48 goals are on PP. MEANING MATTHEWS SCORES 5on5. Since entering the league, Matthews is the greatest 5on5 goal scorer OF ALL TIME.

MATTHEWS is on pace for 2nd greatest regular season of all time (goal scoring wise). You are witnessing top 3 greatest goal scorer of all time.

People want to talk about points?

(Sorry but your secondary assists aren’t the same as 5on5 goals. You don’t know hockey. )

    POWER PLAY POINTS:
    Kucherov : 40
    Mackinnion :34
    Matthews : 21

Matthews 100% deserves the hart, he is a monster 5on5 where as most other players get most of their points on PP. points mean nothing when you have a 70 goal scoring center who is elite defensively !

    Matthews for mvp !!!

  10. No Salim you DON’T have to ask Markstrom that ignorant question that unless you’re completely devoid of any brain function, you should have already known he has no answer for!

  11. He gets rocket richard. full stop. 103rd in assists. Frankie, you and leaf fans can have a big cup of STFU. he didn't deserve hart when he got 60. two wrongs don't make a right. awesome scorer. one dimensional.
